Job Description:Rivertown Theaters seeks a Technical Director / Scenic Shop Manager to facilitate the technical and scenic needs of our year-round season. Averaging around 7 mainstage, full-scale musicals and plays per year, plus 3 cabaret and children's shows, the ideal candidate should be able to keep up with a busy season. Rivertown manages two theaters: one 300 seat proscenium stage with a single-purchase fly system, orchestra pit, and scenic studio attached to the back. The other seats 180 and lends itself to a cabaret/proscenium/children's show facility. This position will be responsible for the technical elements in both facilities, as well as managing a scenic shop crew of 2 to 4 carpenters/painters, and will also work as a carpenter in the scenic shop. The Technical Director / Scenic Shop Manager will be hands-on in the construction, installation, and maintenance of scenic elements, ensuring that all sets are built to the highest standards of safety and craftsmanship. This role requires proficiency in woodworking, scenic construction techniques, and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings. Additionally, the position will involve collaborating with designers, directors, and other production staff to bring creative visions to life on stage, while maintaining the day-to-day operations of the scenic shop.This is a full-time, year-round, in-person position reporting directly to the Artistic Director and Producers. While the standard workweek is approximately 40 hours, additional hours may be required during peak production periods, particularly during tech week or if a build falls behind schedule.Additional stipends are available for each production if interested in extra work outside of regular business hours, such as scenic design, prop design, or backstage crew.The starting salary is $45,000 per year, with flexibility for negotiation based on experience and qualifications.This position will be responsible for the following:

Planning, budgeting and drafting for all scenic elements for all productionsScenic wood carpentry, welding knowledge is preferredSafe rigging practices of scenery, lighting and sound equipmentMaintenance of the theatrical components within both facilities that Rivertown managesMaintenance and upkeep of all tools, lighting and sound equipmentManaging the daily shop schedule for a crew of 2-4Planning efficient change-overs between productionsShop and stage cleanliness with help from crewPurchasing and tracking of all shop expenses and receipts for accountingFacilitating rentals of props or scenery with other companiesTranslating designs from designers into shop drawingsUtilizing stock scenery and maintaining the stock scenery inventoryCreating special FXsMaintain a safe and clean working environment for all cast, crew and patronsKnowledge of a variety of materials and their applicationsStaffing technical positions for rental clients in the theaterQualifications:

5 years professional experience managing a productive scene shop or theater,

OR

a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a theatrical concentration with 3 years professional experience.Must possess theatrical engineering and structural scenery construction and planning skills.Must understand either Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Sketchup, or similar software to produce shop draftings, groundplans and drawings.Must be well educated in safe practices and applications for all power, hand and bench tools.Must be able to maintain a positive attitude under pressure and deadlines.Have experience reading shop drawings from designers.Painting experience is ideal but not required.Welding experience and fabrication with steel is preferred.Knowledge of ETC lightboards is preferred but not required.Must demonstrate clean and safe working practices.Must be able to work unsupervised.Ability to work inside a one-person bucket lift or on a ladder as needed.Ability to lift 50lbs or more.Job Type:
