This role is pivotal in advancing the institute’s mission by leading data-driven research and analytical projects that support biomedical discoveries. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will apply advanced statistical models, machine learning techniques, and big data analytics to solve complex problems in medical science, aiding in the development of groundbreaking treatments and healthcare solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in data management, bioinformatics, and computational biology, as well as the ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to translate data insights into actionable outcomes. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative research that impacts public health at a national level.The Data Scientist will lead the design, development, and execution of comprehensive data analyses related to the client’s grant programs and policies. The incumbent will utilize their deep knowledge of data science methodologies, statistical techniques, and data systems to generate insights that support evidence-based decision-making. The role requires proficiency in data management, analysis, and visualization tools, as well as an ability to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to optimize data-driven strategies and outcomes.Key Responsibilities:Data Analysis Leadership:Lead the design and implementation of detailed analyses of grants, programs, and policies, leveraging structured and linked data from multiple internal and external IT systems.Identify, collect, and modify relevant administrative and outcome data to perform analytic studies, including:Querying internal databases for information.Identifying and extracting data from external sources.Linking related datasets to create comprehensive, unified data structures.Converting unstructured or semi-structured data into structured datasets using natural language processing, machine learning, and other extraction tools.Assessing data quality and determining methods for cleaning and correction to ensure the accuracy and integrity of results.Advanced Analytical Methods:Apply advanced data science techniques to a variety of analytic tasks, including:Descriptive statistics for data summaries and reporting.Regression analysis for identifying relationships and trends.Survival analysis for event-based time modeling.Cluster and network analysis to identify patterns and relationships within datasets.Ensure that analytic techniques are tailored to the specific characteristics of the data and the objectives of the study.Development of Analytical Tools and Automation:Design and implement computer programs and workflows (e.g., R, Python, Power Automate) to perform analyses efficiently.Ensure that all code and workflows are fully documented to enable seamless sharing and collaboration.Stay up to date with current trends and best practices in data science, introducing new tools and techniques as necessary to maintain a cutting-edge analytic environment.Data Visualization and Reporting:Collaborate with stakeholders to develop engaging data visualizations and interactive dashboards using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and QlikSense.Tailor visual presentations to effectively communicate complex findings to a wide range of audiences, from technical experts to non-technical stakeholders.Present findings through clear, concise written reports, as well as oral presentations to various teams and leadership.Required Qualifications:Education & Experience:Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.Minimum of 8+ years of direct experience in data science, including extensive experience with NIH data systems, federal grant funding data analysis, and associated coding languages.Technical Expertise:Proficiency in querying databases and working with both structured and unstructured datasets.Strong command of programming languages such as R, Python, SQL, and tools for data management and analysis (e.g., Power Automate).Hands-on experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and QlikSense.Expertise in applying statistical techniques, machine learning models, and data extraction tools to solve complex problems.Experience converting unstructured data to structured datasets using NLP and other data science methods.Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with IT professionals, researchers, and analysts to advance data science initiatives.Strong written and oral communication skills, with experience presenting complex data findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with NIH funding structures, grant databases, and related regulatory frameworks.Experience leading cross-functional teams or projects in a government or academic setting.Certifications in data science, machine learning, or related technologies.A-TEK, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
