Apple Inc., Cupertino, California, United States, 95014
This is an excellent opportunity to work on the forefront of new power management technologies with the exemplary company consistently bringing innovations in the industry. In this position, you will be part of a team developing innovative concepts and key mixed-signal ICs which are implemented in display products used by many millions of people. The position primarily involves advance power architecture development and key power ICs for Apple’s next generation products spanning watch, mobile phones, notebook computers, desktop computers and other line of products. This is a unique opportunity for an “out of the box thinker” who can enable innovative technologies and superior integrations for next generation power management systems in Apple display products. This is a unique opportunity to work with the best display architects and system designers in Apple and shape its innovative products.
Description
As a PMIC Architect, you will be driving innovative display power architecture/technology concepts and define PMICs from investigation, analysis and design through successful product level implementation. Responsibilities include: Core architecture and technologies investigation by arbitrating various options with technical rigor for key power metric performance optimization including but not limited to efficiency, power density, cost, reduced carbon footprint and scalability. Be a key member of Apple’s display silicon architecture team for new ideas and architecture definition. New power architecture concept definition for mobile devices/computers DC-DC voltage regulators. Work with Apple cross-functional team and power vendors including silicon and magnetic vendors for Apple IP based custom PMIC definitions and developments. Continuously drive highest integrations and technology innovations. Perform rigorous design reviews with silicon vendors. Drive vendors to get the highest quality of products in a very challenging schedule. Provide design simulation, calculation and analytical models for prediction of design concept outcome including control loop stability, transient responses, layout analysis and parasitic extractions. Provide PMIC specification, simulation test cases and validation test plan/results. Hands-on work in lab is a must. Provide smooth hand-off of new architecture to execution team with design analysis, risk assessments, mitigation plans, development lessons learned and proof of concepts. Perform competitive benchmarking. Provide technical support for production issues debug and resolutions. Conduct power seminars and training for cross-functional teams. Lead innovation through exemplary behavior and teamwork. Key Qualifications
Candidate must have direct experience of power supply design and possess deep knowledge of DC-DC power conversion topologies including controls loop. Candidate must be intimately familiar with DC-DC IC architectures, magnetic design, PCB layout and state-of-the-art techniques for integration and efficiency optimizations. Strong analytical/problem solving skills and ability to guide critical decisions. Must possess good understanding of thermals, mechanical and packaging challenges. Must possess knowledge of high volume manufacturing technologies and production variance. Must be able to use Spice and behavioral simulation tools, Matlab, MathCad, Cadence and Excel mathematical analysis. Must have deep knowledge of silicon physics and silicon processes including IC packaging technologies. Must be familiar with challenges of mixed-signal ICs design. Must possess knowledge and experience with both analog and digital design with an emphasis on analog. Must know the complete methodology of mixed-signal IC from a concept to a MP. Must be highly motivated, self-starter with innovation, integrity and attention to details. Ability to work well with cross-functional teams is extremely important. Proven track record of working in fast-paced innovative work environment. Ideal candidate is with work experience in power management semiconductor/silicon companies and computer industry. Must be willing to occasional overseas travel as needed. Education & Experience
