Position Description
This role is responsible for comprehensive human resources services for select HBS departments. Working closely with colleagues on a collaborative HR team, provides expertise, coaching and services to clients to support a culture of staff productivity and engagement.
Reporting to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), this role serves as an HR Generalist to several key internal clients. Specific duties include:
Serve as a subject matter expert and resource on the full range of HR functions: talent acquisition, org design, employee and labor relations, compensation, and special projects.
Coach and serve as a partner to department leaders and managers on talent management including performance management, employee relations, retention, career development and compensation.
Support managers in forecasting and planning their talent pipeline requirements to support their strategy.
Advise, interpret, communicate, and participate in the development of HR policies, practices, and processes.
Develop expertise in and interpret the Harvard Union of Clerical and Technical Workers (HUCTW) guidelines and policies.
Consult with University labor relations, department leaders, managers, and employees on employee relations and labor issues.
Partner with the HBS Learning and Development Team on various initiatives related to employee engagement, onboarding, learning, development, and mobility.
Collaborate with and serve on committees at the local and University level.
Ensure compliance with University Human Resources policies, procedures, and requirements and applicable legal regulations.
Collaborate with department leaders and managers to actively diagnose, develop, and lead organizational development strategies and drive them to results.
Maintain current knowledge of progressive HR practices and key trends.
Participate in our collaborative team environment through meetings and joint projects.
Be responsible for other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
Minimum of 7 years’ relevant HR experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Additional Required Experience:
In addition to the 7 years of experience, 3 more years of experience are required, totaling 10+ years of required experience.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS applications and analytics.
Key Competencies
Significant knowledge of Human Resources practices, policies and laws.
Solid business acumen; understands the business of higher education and/or non-profit HR.
Advanced knowledge of employment law and HR policies and practices; financial/business acumen.
Ability to develop clear, actionable steps in support of an overall business strategy.
Ability to initiate strategies that serve the long-term need of the organization; think strategically/ 'big picture'.
Ability to engage, inspire and influence.
Effective team player.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and responsive customer service skills.
Ability to develop and deliver programs, informational and/or developmental.
Demonstrated experience with the administration of bargaining unit policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a union environment.
Experience in higher education strongly preferred.
Knowledge of the organization/institution (Harvard University).
Additional Information
This is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite 3 days per week and departments provide onsite coverage Monday – Friday. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.
