Associate Director, Marketing and Public Relations

This position is an on-campus, full-time, Exempt, 12-month, Non-Union Supervisory appointment with an annual salary of $66,961.32.

The Associate Director, Marketing and Public Relations is responsible for facilitating the execution of all creative media developed through the Marketing and Public Relations Department. The Associate Director provides support and leadership to the Marketing and Public Relations team through advertising campaign development and coordination, art direction, copyediting, budget assistance, marketing analysis and strategy, and collaboration across departments.

The Associate Director position is a full-time, 12-month, exempt, non-union appointment based on a schedule established by the Director of Marketing and Public Relations. Working hours may include evenings, holidays, or weekends depending on special events. This position requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing, maintaining positive work relationships, possessing strong organizational skills, and computer skills. The Associate Director frequently handles and maintains confidential information and records.

Portfolio, or link to portfolio, with 3-5 samples of prior marketing work (e.g., published works, marketing copy, and graphic design if available).

Essential Job Functions:

Executes marketing strategies developed in coordination with the Director of Marketing and Public Relations and the MPR team.

Coordinates with the graphic design team, outside vendors including the media planning agency, and media placement contacts to put the college's marketing campaigns into market.

Performs tactical and campaign analysis to inform future efforts.

Makes budget recommendations to the Director of Marketing and Public Relations and oversees expenditures.

Works closely with the media consultant and local vendors as needed to manage ad buys, creative deadlines, traffic, and invoicing.

Coordinates photography for marketing department including arranging and managing the shoots.

Writes ad copy, conceptualizes campaigns and manages the quality control and proofreading of all projects produced in the department.

Managing editor for the yearly district-wide newsletter (proposing and selecting stories, assigning timelines, scheduling photography, editing/proofreading/writing, arranging printing) and coordinator for the monthly employee newsletters and quarterly noncredit brochures, and other key publications.

Supervises the graphic design team; performs personnel management functions in accordance with college policies and procedures and appropriate collective bargaining agreements, including oversight of personnel selection, training, and evaluation; ensures departmental practices comply with college policy; and analyzes and recommends appropriate staffing levels.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field and two (2) years of demonstrated success and leadership in production/development as a marketing professional; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Must successfully complete a criminal background check with fingerprinting.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and superior proofreading ability.

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

Communication and consensus-building skills.

Valid driver’s license and insurability to drive for the College.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment.
