About Fugees Family Foundation: The Fugees Family Foundation is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting refugee and immigrant students in partnership with public school districts and local communities. Our mission is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where these students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Role Overview: the Communications Director will play a crucial role in shaping the narrative of the Fugees Family, Inc. You’ll be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that raise awareness, engage stakeholders, and promote our mission. Your work will directly impact the lives of refugee and immigrant students, their families, and the broader community.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Communication Planning:

Develop and execute a comprehensive communications plan aligned with the organization’s goals and initiatives.

Identify key messages and target audiences to effectively convey our mission and impact.

Media Relations:

Cultivate relationships with journalists, bloggers, and media outlets to secure positive coverage.

Draft press releases, media advisories, and statements.

Handle media inquiries and coordinate interviews.

Content Creation and Thought Leadership:

Create compelling content for various channels, including website, social media, newsletters, and donor reports.

Write and edit articles, blog posts, and success stories highlighting student achievements and program outcomes.

Plan and execute a Speaker’s Bureau for key Fugees Family leaders

Digital and Social Media:

Collaborate with the Marketing Director and Digital Managers to elevate the organization’s social media presence across platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.).

Leverage digital campaigns to raise awareness and drive engagement.

Internal Communication:

Ensure consistent messaging across all internal communications.

Collaborate with program staff to gather stories and data for external communication.

Keep staff informed about organizational updates and initiatives.

Community and Donor Engagement:

Work closely with community partners, board of directors), schools, and other stakeholders to foster positive relationships

Organize events, webinars, and workshops to engage the community and share our impact.

Support ongoing donor engagement through newsletters, events, reports and other critical materials

Empower Teranga partnerships through the development and deployment of compelling content to prospects and existing collaborators

Brand Management:

Uphold the Fugees Family, Inc. brand identity and guidelines.

Maintain a cohesive visual and verbal brand presence.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.

Minimum of 6 years of experience in communications, preferably in the nonprofit sector.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in social media management tools and analytics.

Passion for social justice, education, and supporting marginalized communities.
