POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Business Partner for IT supports the Information Technology team by delivering comprehensive communications programs that align with business objectives, including building digital capabilities, introducing new technologies and feature upgrades, and transforming work processes. The Communications Business Partner will develop and implement communication strategies, identify creative storytelling opportunities, produce content, and provide strategic counsel on a wide variety of technology-related topics and issues.

The successful candidate must deliver well-crafted messaging that resonates with internal leaders and employees and, when needed, external audiences. The selected individual will utilize a mix of consulting, influencing, coaching, project management and content development abilities.

This role is part of the Communications Business Partners team and belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. The actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Build and maintain trusted relationships with IT team to advance business objectives through the delivery of compelling, fit-for-purpose communications programs, including providing strategic counsel on effective messaging to engage both employees and external stakeholders, with appropriate sensitivity to a range of perspectives

Develop and implement multi-channel communication plans including positioning, messaging, tactics, channels and sequencing of activities; define and track communications metrics to determine effectiveness of programming

Craft and manage IT-related communication content (news articles, videos, presentations, social media posts, emails, newsletters, etc.) including writing, editing, overseeing creative design, and facilitating content approval

Create and deliver briefing materials, scripting, messaging and content for complex, sensitive and business critical issues, including system upgrades and outages, and incident management topics and scenarios

Provide communication support to the IT Major Incident team, in partnership with the broader Crisis Communications and Issues Management team

Understand and apply communication research techniques and data to develop stakeholder insights and learnings that improve and enhance communications effectiveness; stay up-to-date on emerging communications approaches and tools

Work cross-functionally with other Communications teams to ensure consistency and cohesion, including HR Communications, Digital and Social Media, and Creative Services

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree required. Major in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, business or related field preferred.

Minimum six (6) years of experience producing compelling communications for a variety of channels and audiences at a large or midsized company or public relations firm required

Two (2) or more years of Information Technology or related communications experience strongly preferred

Energy or manufacturing industry experience preferred

Demonstrated capability of leading communications initiatives from beginning to end

SKILLS

Strong ability to communicate complex topics effectively to all types of employees and leaders, from front-line workers to executives

Advanced knowledge of internal and external communication strategies, techniques and best practices; ability to think strategically and build implementation plans that have a measurable impact

Excellent writing and content development skills, including when under pressure; demonstrated ability to present business plans, concepts, strategies and results succinctly and persuasively

Demonstrated capacity to be highly creative, analytical and data-driven at the same time

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment with a high-degree of autonomy, accountability and accuracy

Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to build strong relationships and work effectively in a matrixed organization

Adept project manager with outstanding attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities and programs concurrently and with little oversight

High curiosity; eager to learn and understand a wide range of technology subject matter
