This exciting role offers a blend of 50% labor/employment law and 50% legal general corporate responsibilities. You’ll be a pivotal part of a high-performing team with opportunities for professional growth and exposure to a variety of legal matters. This role is part of QBE's Corporate and Shared Services Legal Team and reports to the Vice President, Associate General Counsel / Head of Corporate and Shared Services.Your new role:Employment Law (50%)

Provide expert and practical legal advice to the People function and senior leaders on employment law matters, including employee relations, employment law compliance, and workplace policies.Advise the People function and management on hiring practices, employee discipline, termination procedures, and performance management.Manage and resolve employment-related disputes and grievances.Conduct or direct certain internal investigations related to employee complaints and ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.Develop and deliver training programs on employment law topics for the People function and management teams.Monitor and interpret new employment legislation, regulations, and case law, and assist the People function in updating policies and practices accordingly.Participate on the Employment Law Global Practice Group, which consists of employment counsel from other QBE geographic divisions.General Corporate Legal Duties (50%)

Advise senior managers on moderate to high impact legal matters by utilizing legal expertise to assess risk and recommend effective and appropriate solutions. This includes providing legal counsel on a wide range of general corporate matters and risk management. Matters may include data privacy, cyber, artificial intelligence, contract review, strategic initiatives, among others. Mentorship and training will be provided.Assist with mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions, including due diligence and integration activities.Collaborate with other members of the legal team on cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives.Build strong relationships with internal business clients and outside parties by utilizing in-depth knowledge of areas of responsibility to resolve legal inquiries and provide effective support for the resolution of issues.Manage relationships with external counsel as needed.Required Education• Doctoral DegreeRequired Experience• 7 years relevant experienceRequired Licenses/Certifications• Admitted to the BarPreferred Competencies/Skills• Utilize effective research and investigative techniques• Communicate information in a clear, well-organized, and professional manner• Legal analysis and writing• Effectively and efficiently present logic, reasoning, and analysis to others• Utilize established procedures to guide decision-making• Anticipate obstacles and challenges, identify root cause and strategize plans to address• Manage and prioritize competing responsibilities concurrently and effectively• Demonstrated ability to think critically; exercise sound judgement• Proven track record of identifying legal issues and providing accurate and timely legal advice to a variety of stakeholders that result in decreased legal risk to the organization.• Evaluate causal relationships• Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong• Escalate issues when necessary• Follow established guidelines to focus on details and complete tasks attentively and thoroughly• Maintain admission to the bar by participating in required continuing legal educationPreferred Experience• Experience in a full-service in-house legal environment• Increasing levels of responsibility• In-house counselPreferred Knowledge• Legal and regulatory research methodology• Legal research databases• Insurance regulatory and compliance knowledge• Policies, practices, trends, and information affecting his/her business and organization• Business and financial acumenAbout QBEWe can never really predict what’s around the corner, but at QBE we’re asking the right questions to enable a more resilient future by helping those around us build strength and embrace change to their advantage. Annual Salary Range: $121,000 - $182,000 for AL, AR, AZ, CO (Remote), DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IL (Remote), IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NV, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX (Remote, Plano), UT, VA, VT, WI, WV and WY. Annual Salary Range: $133,000 - $200,000 for CA (Remote, Fresno, Irvine and Woodland), Greenwood Village CO, CT, Chicago IL, MA, MD, NY (Remote), RI, Houston TX and WA.
