Are you in?PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITIONEntry Level Design position: Under immediate direction and training oversight learning the basic foundations and fundamentals of design such as electric and gas standards and associated IT systems and, performs the least complex design for the extension and improvement of electric substation, transmission, or gas/electric/outdoor lighting distribution system, including relocation, extension, abandonment, and removal of facilities which requires the application of published standards and calculations using computer aided design and drafting methods. Under immediate direction is instructed on how to determine specifications, materials, costs, customer charges, permitting, and right of way requirements and develops the necessary documentation and work management system input to meet all prerequisites for construction. Under immediate direction, learns appropriate customer contact and communication techniques. Coordinates job planning with field construction personnel for jobs designed; approves minor field changes. Under immediate direction is instructed on the approved methods to perform field location survey work and plots above, below, and proposed facilities to show their relationship. Job duties may be electric transmission only, electric substation only, electric distribution only, gas only, outdoor lighting only or combination gas, electric, and outdoor lighting. Work assignment is considered training level. Subject to overtime. May be required to respond to emergency events.PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIESJOB SCOPEQualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, and mechanical drawing necessary to create legible, accurate, and technically acceptable construction drawings. Familiarity with utility maps and records.Demonstrated ability to interpret construction drawings, various corporate map records, and construction standards.Satisfactory completion of the Technical Occupations Selection System Test.Valid driver's license and ability to meet Company driving standards.Ability to use personal vehicle on a regular basis for Company business.May be required to become Notary Public in the State of Maryland, depending on specific assignment.High School DiplomaExperience in the construction and installation of gas/electric/lighting distribution facilities is preferred. Experience or training in the utilization of CADD is preferred.
