Principal Strategic Planning Engineer - Permanent Full Time / Perth CBD

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Strategic Planning Engineer at our Perth CBD office, on a full-time permanent basis working on the Clean Energy Link Program.

About this role

As the Principal Strategic Planning Engineer you will be required to provide engineering technical leadership to the Strategic Planning Area and assist the development of the long-term transmission expansion plan for the SWIS (known as the Clean Energy Link Program). You will work across the business, particularly engineering functions, and with key external stakeholders to guide and direct strategic thinking on the long-term plan.

What you’ll be doing

Provide technical leadership and direction to the development of the long-term transmission expansion plan, including with regards to:

Developing strategies to stage investments

Working with Major Customer Decarbonisation to optimally incorporate customer requirements into the plan.

Consideration of long-term requirements to right size investments, having regards to potential future scenarios

Assisting with the development of scoping and planning studies for transmission expansion projects

Assist with scenario planning and modelling activities.

Build strong relationships with key stakeholders (includes, but not limited to, EPWA, AEMO, Access Solutions, planners, designers, project managers, peers in other Functions and customers).

Providing thought leadership, and rapidly responding to strategic and/or time critical activities that arise during the development and delivery phase work on transmission projects/programs/portfolios.

Provide technical support and guidance to the Asset Management engineering teams on the requirements of the long-term strategic plan.

Assist in the delivery of sound justification of complex transmission projects.

Contributing to the development of open and trusting workplace relations and communication and the development of a trained resource skill mix.

Mentoring of Senior Planning Engineer to nurture an environment of technical excellence, economic principle, and commercial acumen.

About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

Degree Qualification in Engineering (Electrical) discipline

Eligible for CPEng / NPER registration

At least 9 + years relevant broad and extensive knowledge and expertise with demonstrated strong technical experience covering the following areas:

Planning, design, operation, and maintenance of electricity transmission networks

Large generation and load connection studies including assessment of dynamic behaviour, control system assessments and tuning of parameters

Economic and financial evaluation techniques

Extensive technical leadership and knowledge/experience in electricity networks businesses associated with design, planning and operating distribution and/or transmission power systems

Strong knowledge of power system plant and application, with direct experience in planning or power system analysis.

Good understanding of energy and capacity market principles and strong knowledge of utility regulatory frameworks.

High competency in report writing with excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
