The Duke University Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences is seeking a board-certified psychiatrist to direct the Residency Training Program in Psychiatry.

-Two residency programs (categorical psychiatry and internal medicine-psychiatry combined training)-Two fellowship programs (child and adolescent psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry)-One clinical psychology doctoral internship program

Responsibilities:-Assuring that psychiatry residents receive clinical training that is evidence-based, exceptional, holistic, and patient-centered-Supporting trainee development towards outstanding careers in clinical psychiatry, education, research, service, advocacy and leadership-Fostering academic inquiry, resident development, and innovation in psychiatric education-Participating in and leading educational meetings-Working with Duke Graduate Medical Education Leadership to maintain continuous accreditation

Qualifications and Position Criteria:-MD or equivalent, board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)-Eligible for license as a physician in the state of North Carolina or equivalent as determined by Medical Board-Maintain an adequate clinical practice to ensure high-level competency in psychiatry-At least three years of experience in an accredited teaching program-Prior GME leadership experience preferred-Other executive or administrative leadership experience will be considered-Evidence of excellent clinical skills in psychiatry, advanced communication skills, and strong abilities as a team leader and member-Innovative approach to medical education-Outstanding academic accomplishments and trajectory, in the areas of education, clinical leadership and work, and/or research-0.7 FTE assigned for this role / 0.3 FTE as a member of the Duke Health Integrated Practice clinical team as determined by the candidate’s area of expertise and interest.

Position Scope:

The Psychiatry Residency Program Director will:-Oversee of all aspects of the Psychiatry training program-These elements include and are not limited to educational activities, clinical activities, program evaluation, trainee evaluation, faculty oversight and evaluation, and recruitment and selection of new residents to the Psychiatry program.-Continuously assess and refine clinical and educational activities for the residency-Lead the advising of residents about professional, clinical and scholarly development; ensure that each trainee receives mentorship appropriate to their planned career trajectory-Work closely with the psychiatry associate program directors and coordinators-Serve as liaison with faculty clinical leadership across training sites; serve as a model of professionalism and collaboration for trainees-Understand the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in academic psychiatry; model these values in their daily work-Lead and maintain program accreditation with the ACGME and other regulatory bodies-Evaluate and document resident progress towards meeting ACGME milestones in Psychiatry, including with Clinical Competency Committee-Support the leadership of the existing residency tracks, including Clinician Educator Track, Duke Psychotherapy Track and Physician Scientist Track-Oversee the requirements for board certification of trainees in psychiatry-Monitor program, resident and faculty evaluations and design and implement interventions as needed. Maintain high quality clinical and educational experiences-Oversee budget for the residency program-Demonstrate strong citizenship and collaboration as a Residency Training Program Director, including mission acceptance and adherence to all applicable bylaws and regulations-Represent and promote the residency program at the national level, in organizations such as the American Association of ---Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training (AADPRT), and the North Carolina Psychiatric Association (NCPA)

As the identified direct contact for ACGME, AAMC, AOA, and individual schools the incumbent has the freedom to make major changes to the program according to appropriate guidelines. This position has the accountability and authority to develop curriculum, standards and evaluation tools in clinical designated specialty education, to teach, consult, counsel and evaluate performance. In conjunction with other faculty, the incumbent has the authority to assure academic due process where disciplinary action is required.
