Under the supervision of the Education Manager, the Center Director will be responsible to:

Model professional behavior with regard to staff, children, families, curriculum and new personnel according to Cheaha Regional Head Start/Early Head Start policy and standards.

Monitor lesson plans, classroom activities, playground activities, etc., that teaching staff utilize developmentally appropriate materials and equipment on a daily basis with minimum of 30 minute observations in each classroom per week. Reporting any issues to the Education Manager.

Create open lines of correspondence and communication with parents to keep them informed of changes in curriculum, guideline and policy updates, and other pertinent parent information.

Encourages parents/guardians and others to become involved in volunteer programs and familiarizes them with policies and procedures regarding their participation as a volunteer.

Facilitate and assist with staff meetings with Education Manager and the implementation of daily class schedules with teacher and center staff.

Promptly responds to requests by securing and providing resources, materials and education supplies.

Works with community representatives to build partnerships, to help benefit Head Start Families such as; local libraries, schools, museums and local chamber. Serves as a point of contact and information for prospective or new Head Start families.

Performs functions of teaching in the event that a substitute is unavailable.

Knowledgeable and adheres to the emergency plan, administers and sick children in the center.

Observes the meal service program regularly to ensure compliance to regulation.

Maintain records of all food service products and equipment as required by USDA Licensing Director.

Responsible to ensure that Lead and Assistant Teachers perform required job duties in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, Minimum Standards and Agency policies.

Conducts training with teaching staff on upcoming information about school readiness with information provided by the Education Manager or Coordinator.

Conduct and attend weekly curriculum and data meetings.

Specific item listing is as follows (but may not include every item):

Monitors, center equipment in classrooms, on the playground, and requesting and reporting maintenance repairs in a timely manner on a weekly basis.

Maintain and monitor an accurate and confidential record keeping system.

Perform evaluations/disciplinary reports for center staff.

Inspects and ensures that centers are licensing inspection ready on a daily basis. Takes and enforces corrective action immediately in a given situation.

Promptly prepares accurate USDA food service report and provides to USDA Director as requested.

Tracks, maintains and submits payroll record-keeping and attendance to corporate payroll in a timely manner.

Check education files at least three times per program or more as needed.

Complete accident reports immediately and report to the Central Office.

All job offers/work agreements are contingent on:

the approval of the Policy Council,

a negative State Child Abuse/Neglect registry check,

negative results of a State/Federal criminal history background check,

a valid driver's license, acceptable MVR report, possesses minimum insurance coverage limits (including Liability coverage of $100K per person/$300K per accident for Bodily Injury and $50K for Property Damage)

and negative results on drug/alcohol screening (pre-employment and random).

**After successful completion of the 3-month probationary period, employee will be offered benefits and regular employment status.

Candidates will primarily be responsible for one of 13 centers, but potentially travel frequently within the 6-county service area of Calhoun, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Randolph, and Talladega.

Required Education and Experience

Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Early Education, Child Development or other related program with 1 year of work experience in a related area.

Required: Associate’s in Early Education, Child Development or other related field with 2 years of work experience in a related area. Also, requires previous experience managing employees.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of Windows and applications such as Word and Excel.

Extensive knowledge of the Head Start Performance Standards and Agency policies.

Ability to monitor and evaluate program systems and procedures, and maintain reports.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with parents, employees, and other professionals.

Sensitivity to the needs of low income families and multicultural beliefs and practices.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Physical Abilities

Must be physically able to lift (up to 50 Lbs.) repetitively, bend, and stoop in the care of young children throughout the workday.

Positions requiring the use of personal owned vehicle to perform job tasks; successful applicants must:

Be 21 years of age

Have a current valid driver’s license

Provide proof of current automobile liability insurance with a minimum bodily injury limit of $100,000 per person $300,000 per occurrence on personal owned vehicle and $50,000 for property damage.

Provide a current Motor Vehicle Report in order to be insurable by the program’s non-owned insurance plan
