Communications DepartmentPrimary Purpose:

Promote positive public relations between the school district and community. Prepare and provide information to the public about the activities, goals, and policies of the school district. Distribute pertinent information about the district and its activities to employees. Act as the Public Information Officer for the District. Work directly with the Superintendent to complete special projects as assigned. Collaborate and promote events/funding for the Lumberton ISD Education Foundation.Qualifications:

Master’s Degree preferredExperience as a public school classroom teacher preferredORExperience with PR/Marketing jobs outside of educationSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsAbility to speak effectively before groups of employees, parents, or the publicAbility to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the districtThorough knowledge of media relations and public relations functionsAbility to use software to develop spreadsheets, perform data analysis, and do word processingProven ability to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment, with little supervisionProven ability to successfully manage complex projects from fruition to completionKnowledge of photography, drones, video editing, and related tools preferredThorough knowledge of website and social media management requiredExperience:5-years’ experience with the public school system; prior work experience, workforce certifications, or education preferred, and can substitute with Superintendent approval.Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Public and Community Relations

Serve as the information liaison between the school district and the community. Serve as district spokesperson and coordinate media coverage including preparing press releases and publishing articles and photos in local media and other publications.Ensure that public information activities contribute to the attainment of district goals and objectives.Design, prepare, and edit district publications including website, social media, newsletters, recruitment brochures, programs for special events, and other publications.Serve as district representative on community committees as required. Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs including speaking at civic organization meetings and make presentations.Organize and maintain a use-schedule for the PAC. Assist with arrangements for use of the PAC. Be the direct community contact for use of the PAC.Policies, Reports, and Law

Develop and publicize reports related to the performance of the district and articulate district goals and objectives.Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.Budget

Develop and administer the department budget based on documented needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.OtherServe as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet.Consult with and advise the Superintendent on critical matters related to communications, community partnerships, school safety, and other pressing matters as requested.Work directly with the Superintendent to complete special projects as requested.Serve as the District contact to the Board Advocacy Committee. Assist the Superintendent and Board with all required advocacy activities.Represent the Superintendent at community, regional, and state events as requested.Maintain high visibility at district events as requested.Supervisory Responsibilities:
