If selected, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing legal advice, counsel, and recommendations for a highly sophisticated and sensitive area involving the securities market and SEC operations.

Typical duties include:Serving as an expert legal adviser and counsel on the operations of the Office of the Secretary, focusing on enforcement matters, including: the review, processing, authentication, and service of all instruments of formal Commission action; review and approval of the issuance of orders and notices relating to the enforcement of the securities laws; and providing advice on the application of the Commission's Rules of Practice.Providing expert legal advice and counsel on other duties of the Office of the Secretary, including: oversight of Commission meetings (closed, open, and oral arguments); ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Government in the Sunshine Act; the preparation, maintenance, and authentication of the official minutes record of all actions of the Commission; and oversight of processing filings in administrative proceedings.Giving expert legal analysis, advice, and guidance to the Office of the Chair, Commissioners, and agency staff on the administrative conduct of Commission proceedings and Rules of Practice.Providing leadership and guidance to Office of the Secretary Staff and stakeholders on all issues related to Office operations, policies, and programs and exercising responsibility for implementation and/or development of policies and procedures applicable to the Office.Overseeing significant technological projects in close collaboration with the Office of Information Technology and other agency staff.Representing the agency in high-level meetings, conferences, and presentations involving a wide range of participants such as regulatory or law enforcement agencies; state, local, national, or international government offices; private industry; and the academic community.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement.SK-16: Applicant must have one

year of specialized experience equivalent to the SK-14 level.Specialized experience includes the following:

Analyzing complex legal and factual issues related to enforcement matters, conducting legal research, and engaging in a high order of creative interpretation and reasoning to formulate advice and recommend legal courses of action;

ANDConducting second level reviews of documents and providing legal advice regarding the application of the federal securities laws and Commission Rules of Practice.Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
