Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) has the fastest, lowest cost path to commercial fusion energy. CFS collaborates with MIT to leverage decades of research combined with groundbreaking new high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet technology. Our mission is to deploy compact fusion power plants to meet global decarbonization goals. To implement this plan, we are looking to add dedicated people to the team who treat people well and bring new perspectives.As the CAD Team Leader for the SPARC, you will manage the designers, create and maintain the CAD standards, and be responsible for the design databases.
This team member will:
Lead the CFS CAD team
Hire and develop outstanding CAD designers
Work cross-functionally with project leaders to understand their CAD needs and manage the team's work accordingly
Create workflows, processes, metrics, and delivery goals for the team
Set clear CAD design standards and ensure alignment with project needs
Ensure released drawings and models are correct and of high quality
Manage the SPARC design database
Drive the team to meet deadlines
Provide guidance to ensure operational and technical excellence
Work with other SPARC engineering team leaders to resolve technical issues
Recommend best practices for solutions to meet SPARC needs
The ideal candidate will have most, if not all, of these requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar engineering discipline)
10+ years of design experience in a product development environment with strong 3D design skills
Experience with tightly tolerance large structural components
Experience with complex dynamic assemblies
3+ years of supervisory experience with at least 10 individuals
Experience designing for extreme thermal variations
Ability to develop and manage design procedures
Experience with CAD design tools such as: NX, Solidworks, Creo, etc.
Ability to clearly express and critique ideas
Attention to detail
Emphasis on elegance and simplicity over complexity
Understanding manufacturing methods and their impact on designs
Drive towards commercially viable solutions

Additional preferred experience and/or qualifications:
Teamcenter power user
In-depth GDT experience
Experience designing for ultra high vacuum environments
Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
