POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Testing and Accommodation Services is responsible for ensuring the security of tests and the testing environment as well as providing leadership across the University related to accommodation services for students. The Director ensures reasonable learning accommodations and accessibility for self-identified students in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal law. He or she provides leadership and coordination for supportive services, including but not limited to note taker services, interpreters, student testing, assistive technologies, and other accommodation needs. The Director provides faculty with letters granting official accommodations and offers consultation for creating a classroom environment that meets students’ needs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops and maintains academic accommodations policies and procedures.

Responds to inquiries for academic accommodations and explains the process and procedures for requesting academic accommodations.

Assists students in the process for requesting and establishing academic accommodations and determines accommodations on a case-by-case basis.

Evaluates documentation received for applicable criteria and determines eligibility for services.

Consults with applicable originators of student's documentation for additional information or clarification as needed.

Meets with students to discuss their accommodation needs and determines reasonable accommodations the University can offer.

Writes and sends accommodation letters to faculty and/or instructors for approved accommodations for students.

Facilitates coordination with applicable HCU administration regarding disability/accommodation needs for campus living.

Serves as a resource and liaison between students, faculty, and staff in applying the approved accommodations.

Addresses any complaints students may have about the accommodations process.

Assists faculty in understanding and applying accommodations.

Maintains and updates the HCU academic accommodations website regarding the academic accommodations process.

Assesses accommodation services delivery through end-of-semester student satisfaction surveys.

Maintains confidential student records.

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of best practices and emerging issues in accommodation services.

Coordinates with TRIO grant personnel to recruit and maintain eligible students.

Coordinates with Tutoring Center and Writing Center personnel in training tutors to provide services to students with disabilities.

Advocates for students and Houston Christian University.

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of best practices and emerging issues in testing services.

Administers/proctors exams for various assessments and distance learning.

Orders testing materials and provides testing activity reports as needed.

Keeps records accurate, secure, and up-to-date.

Ensures testing procedures and policies are adhered to for security and integrity of testing.

Conducts presentations on testing procedures for various departments on campus.

Maintains and updates the HCU Testing website as needed regarding testing dates and procedures.

Submits yearly budget requests and manages budget allocation.

Submits yearly University assessments and reports.

Supervises proctors and work-study students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree and experience in education for Special Populations.

Preferred university experience in disability or accommodation services.

Availability for some night and weekend programming.

Commitment to further the University’s mission.

Must affirm, uphold, and live within the Preamble of Houston Christian University and the Ten Pillars Core Convictions.

Exhibit an active Christian faith with local church membership and involvement.
