In this highly visible role, you will manage selection, implementation, optimization, and scale up of manufacturing processes for our legendary soft goods products. You will utilize your mechanical engineering experience and work across multi-functional teams in Product Design and Industrial Design to assess product features for manufacturability and recommend capable processes and equipment.DescriptionYou will employ your mechanical manufacturing background in the following areas:Process Development:

Planning, proposing, and leading experiments to produce timely and accurate analyses used to drive design, development, and supply chain decisions. Assessing the suitability of a fabrication technology for a given part design. Planning validation exercises to demonstrate initial feasibility as well as manufacturing capability. Analyzing results of validation exercises and providing technical recommendations. Evaluate and identify process opportunities/risks and drive mitigations plans to meet key program targets inclusive of cycle time, labor, space, and equipment. Reviewing progress of development activities at supplier locations and serving as point of escalation for critical process related issues.New Product Introduction:

Acts as lead engineer to drive process development and capability assessment activities, reviewing part design documentation to ensure alignment with process capability. Assigning specific tasks and working with Apple suppliers to support process development and/or data gathering activities. Setting clear goals for results and providing timely reviews of performance throughout the program. Establishing validation procedures to determine acceptance of tooling into development builds as well as mass production.Supplier Execution:

Reviewing supplier tool design, process flow, equipment selection, DFM, and DOE proposals. Identifying shortfalls and corrective actions to ensure design compliance. Working with supplier engineering teams to map out process development exercises, secure resources, and commit to schedules in line with program goals. Assessing supplier readiness to support build events and production ramp. Identifying potential execution issues and providing recommendations to mitigate risk. Defining and reviewing line qualification criteria in collaboration with the supplier to scale up mass production to meet key production metrics. Reviewing, leading, and assisting maintaining product process flow, layout, and cycle time against project goals. Willingness to travel internationally to supplier sites.Minimum Qualifications3+ years of proven experience supporting new product launches from a mechanical, tooling, or product development perspective.BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.Preferred QualificationsExperience with mechanical fabricated parts or adhesives, glues, jigs, fixtures, tooling, injection molding, plastics experience is required.Deep understanding of DOE, GD&T, SPC techniques.Experience leading suppliers' technical team in the development and qualification of manufacturing process.Experience defining & executing mass production qualification requirements.International experience, particularly in Asia is a plus.Demonstrated hands-on mechanical ability.Proven problem solving ability.Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills.Experience with highly cosmetic parts a plus.Pay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $122,300 and $184,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
