A. POSITION PURPOSEThe Director of Mission Engagement (DME) is charged with creating enduring structures, programs, and networks in academic and non-academic units to support the understanding of and engagement with SCU's Jesuit, Catholic mission. The DMI, under the direction of the Director of Ignatian Formation and the Bannan Forum (DIFBF), creates, directs, and implements plans and programs for outreach to academic and staff units across campus. The DME will also work with faculty, staff, and administrators to engage with SCU's mission and will provide resources, training, and other necessary facilitation to help them achieve their mission programming. This includes maintaining partnerships with key units (for example, Human Resources, University Marketing and Communication, the Jesuit Community, and others) and developing new partnerships. This position, in coordination with the DIFBF, will also support projects led by the Vice President for Mission and Ministry. This position will coordinate extensively with other staff members at the Ignatian Center, including the Director of Ignatian Spirituality, as well as with the Director of Campus Ministry as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops and oversees mission-related programming with faculty, staff, and administrators, in partnership with the DIFBF.

Provides resources, training, and other necessary facilitation for mission programming on campus.

Develops and oversees programs and efforts to support participants in Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) initiatives.

Supports and collaborates with DIFBF and the Director of Ignatian Spirituality on mission-related programming.

Oversees Division and ICJE assessment activities related to the mission engagement program portfolio and broader areas as needed.

Oversees all operational and financial aspects related to the portfolio. Contributes to the broader work of the Division.

Executes other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages on-campus programs and efforts to support participants in AJCU initiatives.

Supports and collaborates with DIFBF and the Director of Ignatian Spirituality on mission-related programming.

Oversees Division and ICJE assessment activities related to the mission engagement program portfolio and broader areas as needed.

Manages all operational and financial aspects related to the portfolio.

Contributes to the broader work of the Division.

Executes other tasks as assigned.

E. QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience required or preferred.

1. Knowledge

Comprehensive understanding of and professional involvement with the Ignatian and Catholic educational paradigm, especially as it relates to faculty and staff experiences/formation.

Experience in higher education required, preferably at a Jesuit sponsored institution.

Willingness to develop professional knowledge and skills.

Experience in multi-cultural settings working with a diverse community.

2. Skills

Strong verbal/written communication and influencing skills, particularly with respect to personal identities and backgrounds.

Inter- and intra-culturally competent and skilled in working with and supporting faculty and staff from a wide variety of backgrounds and orientations.

Open, objective, innovative, and oriented toward understanding and responding to issues from divergent perspectives.

Superior ability to communicate with religiously and intellectually diverse audiences.

Outstanding organizational and project management skills.

Demonstrated competence in Google Suite products, Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro required. Experience in Workday and Canva preferred.

3. Abilities

Demonstrated high-level performance in organizational entrepreneurship and creativity.

Demonstrated high-level performance in successfully driving projects from inception to completion.

Excellent overall judgment combined with attention to detail.

Ability to consistently demonstrate a commitment to equity and respect in the workplace, a genuine desire to promote a supportive climate for all members of the SCU community, intercultural awareness, communication and understanding, and the ability to manage difficult and contentious situations.

Demonstrated high-level record of building and managing effective connection with a range of constituencies to achieve success.

Availability to work variable hours when required to accomplish project goals.

Valid U.S. Driver's License.

4. EducationMaster's degree required.

5. Years of ExperienceMinimum four years' professional experience in relevant field.

F. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Considerable time is spent at a desk using a computer terminal.

May be required to travel to other buildings on the campus.

May be required to occasionally travel to outside partners, customers, vendors or suppliers. Travel may include out of state destinations and include overnight stays.

G. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Typical office environment.

Offices with frequent interruptions.
