About the Referral Optimization Charge:

The Referral Optimization Charge (ROC) is responsible for managing daily organ referral activities, guiding, and supporting the Referral Responders and Referral Intake Specialists. The ROC ensures an efficient referral monitoring process, which includes conducting medical screenings, maintaining hospital communications, assessing donor suitability, and facilitating conversations with families. This position is essential in maintaining a smooth and effective organ referral process.

General Charge Duties

Acts as a shift leader and provides real-time logistical direction of referral monitoring resources to ensure optimal shift performance and efficiency.Ensures continual monitoring of potential organ donor referrals. Determines and communicates shift plan for deployment and case assignments to scheduled RO staff.Assists with the daily RO shift calls.Effectively provides staff with direct support and guidance on how to oversee new and difficult situations.Advises staff when working through operational challenges by providing mentoring, talking points, coaching and on-site support.Maintains the highest standards of professional conduct and interpersonal relationship development.Performs all the duties and responsibilities of the Referral Intake Specialist and Referral Responder as needed.

Initial Referral Intake and Response of Heart-Beating Ventilated (HBV) Referrals

Oversees the prompt and professional response to referrals, facilitating the evaluation of donor potential.Advises and supports Referral Responders in facilitating activation assignment responding to heart beat ventilated (HBV) referrals promptly.Guides the initial screening process for organ donor suitability.Collaborates with the organ advisor on call (AOC) to ensure accurate and efficient information is shared.

Organ Donor Suitability

Reviews obtained information and advises on the assessment of potential organ donors to enhance the donation process.Ensures accurate documentation of clinical status, plan of care, and family information.Prevents family conversations about donation when there is no potential for donation.Ensures withdrawal of care is not initiated before evaluating donor suitability.Collaborates with other applicable departmental advisors on organ referral progression and the activation of appropriate staff to facilitate donation conversations and organ donor management.

Family Conversation Facilitation

Ensures the evaluation and documentation of a referral's plan of care and the family's readiness for a donation conversation are regularly monitored.Supports Donation and Family Advocates (DFAs) in facilitating family conversations regarding donation.Guides the process of obtaining informed authorization from donor families in collaboration with hospital staff.Advise on appropriate timing for a family conversation.

Requirements:

Associate degree or higher in nursing, respiratory therapy, paramedic medicine, or related biological science (including transplant and donation science).

3 years OPO/organ referral response experience

Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) preferred.

EMT-P, LPN or RT license preferred
