The Argonne Tandem Linear Accelerator System (ATLAS) at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) is seeking an experienced Accelerator Technician. ATLAS is the world's first heavy ion superconducting linear accelerator, and for over three decades has operated as a user facility to explore the frontiers of nuclear physics and applications. The accelerator delivers high energy ions via a combination of DC and RF electromagnetic fields. The Technician's responsibilities include

installation and maintenance of beamline mechanical systemstroubleshooting of accelerator diagnostic devices - Faraday cups, wire scanners, etc.support for water and electric utilitiesmaintaining and documenting equipment in support of the ATLAS accelerator operations.This position requires experience with mechanical assembly and fabrication, and the ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks, communicate effectively, and provide documentation to system non-experts. Projects can vary from one to the next and the successful applicant must thrive in taking on new challenges, and must be a flexible, results-oriented problem-solver who requires minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications:

Proficiency with the safe use and best practices of hand-held power tools and hand toolsProficiency with the fabrication of parts using basic shop tools and drawingsProficiency in general mechanical assemblyExperience logging and documenting system maintenance, performance, and modificationsAbility to work independently following verbal or written instructionsAbility to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to use multi-meters and other basic electrical measuring toolsFamiliarity with relay logic, interlock systems, or basic computer codeExperience with programmable logic controllersFamiliarity with electrical schematics and mechanical drawingsUnderstanding of basic vacuum principles and best practicesExperience with alignment equipmentExperience with Computer Aided Drafting and Dimensioning softwareExperience at an accelerator facilitySUPPORT TECHNICAL (ST) MINIMUM EDUCATION & RELATED EXPERIENCE OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATIONS:

LEVEL 1-AA degree or high school & 1-3 yrsLEVEL 2-AA degree or high school & 5+ yrs
