Mgr, Design Digital Product, (Remote-US)

From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only

celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.

Digital Products at Starbucks

Every morning, tens of millions of people enjoy drinks and food at Starbucks. Our digital products are transforming our customer and barista experiences in big ways. The quality of this experience in a digital context depends on great UX design and research and the opportunity to innovate at a truly global scale is huge.

As a Mgr, Design Digital Products, you lead a team that defines and drives the future of design at Starbucks on a global scale. You identify and support product strategy, solve robust experiences, and lead your team to raise the bar in everything we do across various Starbucks digital platforms including web, mobile and POS. You’re a big picture thinker with very practical skills to move the day-to-day towards big goals.

Managing design extends your role often beyond design itself into systems thinking, product strategy, data science. Your ability to collaborate with leaders of other Design, Engineering, Product Management, and stakeholder teams is crucial. You’re a fierce advocate for the Starbucks customer. You’ve got an instinctive sense of focused and clean design. You deeply understand complex business and user needs and distill them into simple features and flows.

This role is an opportunity to work on an exceptionally high performing UX design and research team in a very supportive and positive environment.

As a Mgr, Design Digital Products, you will:

Lead and direct a team of designers focused on customer-facing features and be able to communicate the rationale and background for your decisions

Provide productive direction and feedback to designers, while always advancing the quality of the experiences we deliver

Collaborate with product management to plan and define features and how they map back to customer and business values

Serve as a mentor to other designers, supporting their growth and development

Contribute to prioritization of work and projects

Be a strategic collaborator, within the team, the org, and external stakeholder groups

Build relationships with leaders outside of the digital products design team, educating them and guiding them along in the process of shipping great experiences for our customers

Be an extension of our product design team’s culture and principles to the broader organization

Effectively advocate for users in a fast-paced, corporate climate, imparting day-to-day design leadership that fosters a shared understanding of the human-centric intersection between design, content, business, and engineering

We’d love to hear from people with:

8 years of experience as a designer

3 years of experience managing or leading design teams

Portfolio of UX-focused work samples including web and mobile applications

Effectiveness in working across organizational boundaries to define, manage, and prioritize work

Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex interaction concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
