Additional comments from the HM:

We would be interested in a candidate who advises/consults companies on IRS audits. The candidate does not need to come from a corporate environment. They could come from a law or accounting firm, for example. Both will have professionals who support clients in defending against IRS audits. For information, we’ve shared the job description with the Big 4 national accounting firms (Deloitte, KPMG, PwC and E&Y) and a handful of law firms.

We are a large corporate taxpayer under continuous IRS examination. The IRS maintains office space in our HQ building and we meet with them weekly in person. We also do Zoom/Teams calls, but the weekly face-to-face meetings are wanted by both sides. Goes a long way in relationship building and managing face-paced, complex audits.
