Position Summary Description

Demonstrates a high degree of technical knowledge to independently perform maintenance activities in a manner that will ensure the safe, efficient, reliable, and regulatory compliant operation of Seminole generating plants and transmission infrastructure, including substation major equipment, SCADA systems, RTUs, metering systems, telecommunication equipment and protocols, protection and control protective relaying systems and other associated equipment. Executes work activities involving a high degree of complexity with respect to technical engineering concepts, tools and analysis that are required in troubleshooting, calibrating, repairing, testing, and investigating operations or failures of systems components and equipment. Oversees and leads all phases of field troubleshooting, testing, and commissioning of projects associated with Seminole's high-voltage transmission infrastructure couple with the field technical support to Seminole’s generation plants. Provides technical support to various phases of capital and expense project life cycle that include project's conception, design and specification, estimating, scheduling, construction, and project closeout. May provide contractor management oversight during construction of capital projects and project management accountabilities for maintenance projects.

Essential Functions

Develops and implements commissioning and maintenance test plans that are safe, effective, and efficient at meeting regulatory compliance requirements, corporate standards, corporate guidelines, industry standards, and industry best practices.

Performs operational checks and tests on various generation and substation facilities, including but not limited to, power circuit breakers, transformers, instrument transformers, disconnect switches, motor operators, battery systems, protective relaying system and equipment, SCADA systems, RTUs, metering systems, power line carriers, wave traps and tuners.

Performs preventive, corrective, and emergent maintenance on substation equipment, protective relaying systems, SCADA systems, RTUs, metering systems and associated equipment.

Operates and interprets readings from test equipment such as digital multi-meters, insulations testers, protective relay test sets and radio frequency measurement equipment to facilitate problem identification and/or safe operations.

Leads the investigation of operational incidents and/or equipment failures to determine root cause, recommended corrective actions, and mitigation measures.

Reviews and monitors applicable NERC PRC standards and ensure requirements are being satisfied, including RSAWs and documenting of evidence.

Provides technical guidance and oversight to Relay Technicians, SCADA Technicians, and Substation Technicians on protection and control, SCADA, and metering matters.

Supports the development of technical specifications of major electrical equipment, electrical components, RTUs and protective relaying systems.

Supports the request for proposal and/or sole sources process for system maintenance initiatives via proposal development, bid review and selections.

Monitors and evaluates emerging and recent technologies for application and integration by Seminole.

Prepares, reviews, and verifies substation and switchyard design for transmission and generation assets.

Tests and verifies that wiring of various substation control schemes is completed in accordance with construction design prints and achieve desired results.

Supports the maintenance leadership team in budgeting, cost estimation, quality assurance, quality control, and training.

Performs project management on System Maintenance projects.

Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole’s Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in “audit-ready” form as applicable and directed. You should also be familiar with Seminole’s Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole’s compliance program and the context of your duties and responsibilities attendant to your designation in the SOM.

Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required. Advanced degree in engineering preferred. Fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible power system industry experience that spans across generating plant and transmission environments and includes transformers, power circuit breakers, disconnects, and various control schemes. Field experience troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, and maintaining electrical systems, components, and equipment is required. Professional Engineer (PE) License is a plus.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to follow established protective measures including, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report. Must be able to lift fifty pounds.

Working Conditions

Some travel, overnight stays, and work outside of normal business hours to existing and future transmission facilities, substation and generator sites as required. While working in certain areas of substations and/or switchyards, there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment. Work is outdoors with frequent travel away from the office environment. While working in certain areas of generation facilities, there may be extreme temperatures and conditions.
