Senior Tungsten EngineerThe Senior Tungsten Engineer manages the global Tungsten investment for the Quartz business. This requires working closely with raw material suppliers, external machine shops on tooling priorities and machining quality, and global furnace teams to ensure set-up levels are adequate and that the furnaces are producing a quality product. The role will serve as the lead for the strategic project to develop machining capability internally and will provide leadership to direct reports within the machining center. Comply with federal and state regulations in conjunction with company policies in areas of Safety, Environmental Regulations, and Utilities. Follow and adhere to Momentive's Core Competencies, take an active leadership role in promoting a safe work culture, interfacing with all disciplines of the company, and working in a "Team environment".

Responsibilities

New set-up design including assembly and part drawings, BOM's, machining and fabrication instructions.

Existing set-up support ordering, refurbishing, and/or modifying existing tungsten inventory.

Partner with the commodity manager in the negotiations with tool fabricating vendors and suppliers, quotes, vendor approval, and vendors interface during fabrication.

Physical inspection of completed set-ups.

Complete root cause investigations and corrective actions as needed on tungsten-related furnace failures; complete post-run reviews as needed to understand furnace performance and any optimizations needed for next setups.

Responsible for yearly investment budget for all tungsten investment and ensuring that capital and expense budgets are maintained.

Integrate all critical documents into the quality management system.

Create/update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all Tungsten processes and generate safety job instructions.

Participate in new tool design reviews; Manage all engineering test requests and management of change (MOC) process, both internally and externally.

Manage new Tungsten set-ups cradle-to-grave including scrap sales auctions.

Review part prints for accuracy, tolerance feasibility, and material specifications.

Create the RFQ's; send to vendors for tooling and capital quotes, analyze the quotes, and make recommendations to Purchasing.

Develop contingency plans for single source operations and materials; manage validation plans for associated qualifications/changes with tungsten and associated changes.

Communicate the quality requirements that are needed to meet expectations for furnace set-ups.

Act as the main point of contact and provide technical support to external shops and manufacturing teams to troubleshoot and ensure the tooling & capital meets company standards.

Manage scale up to higher volume manufacturing in the development project for internal machining.

Develop and assess long-range plans for expanded capabilities and investment required.

Oversee furnace trials and testing relative to tungsten modifications to ensure accuracy.
