Rutgers The State University is seeking a Staff Nurse in the Community Based Services of Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare. The Staff Nurse delivers person-centered, goal-directed nursing care in alignment with departmental policies, regulatory standards, and the scope outlined by the American Psychiatric Nurses Association. Collaborating within interdisciplinary teams, the Staff Nurse engages in quality improvement and education.Key Duties

Assesses and diagnoses individual served, family and significant other needs in order to provide quality care to assigned individual served.Performs admission assessment in accordance with specific unit standards.Incorporates specific assessment of bio/psycho/social/sexual/spiritual status at the time of admission and throughout care; compares and contrasts to age norms as one indicator of health, actual or potential deviations from health, and individualized need for nursing intervention.Assesses and reassesses as appropriate for risk factors including but not limited to: risks of suicide, self injurious behavior, imminent aggression and fall risks.Assesses for signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect and immunization status as appropriate and signs/symptoms of illnesses common to the population.Demonstrates awareness of medication and dosage considerations specific to individual physiology including height/weight, growth and metabolism, reproductive maturity and related behaviors.Position Status:

Minimum Education and Experience:

Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to provide psychiatric nursing, relate to clients, use the nursing process, communicate effectively, problem solve, direct non-professional staff, and request help as needed.Demonstrate strong clinical nursing specialty, excellent communication skills, and proficiency in word processing.Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands:Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently.Focus on tasks despite interruptions.Must be able to sit for extended periods while documenting into an electronic medical record.Frequent driving, walking, standing, bending, and talking with individuals served in the community.Use of own vehicle for community outreach and transport of individuals served.Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.Work Environment:Predominantly in community settings such as homes, shelters, soup kitchens, and public areas.Subject to unpredictable situations, including crises related to behavioral, medical, substance use, and psychiatric issues.Occasional exposure to individuals exhibiting assaultive behaviors and blood borne pathogens.Posting Details
