Inova Fairfax Hospital is currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Psychiatry Observation (EmPath) unit on the day shift. This is a full-time position with a 3 x 12-hour shift schedule (7:00 am to 7:30 pm). Previous psychiatric experience in an inpatient setting is strongly preferred.

This is a brand new unit opening FALL 2024!

The Psychiatry Observation (EmPath) Unit:

Our Psychiatry Observation or EmPath unit - short for

Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, and Healing unit

- is a specialized 14-bay unit located in our modern Emergency Department. It is designed to address mental health emergencies. Unlike standard emergency departments, our EmPATH unit offers a more compassionate and therapeutic approach, delivering acute behavioral healthcare to patients aged 18 and older who are in crisis in a calm, therapeutic setting.

Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1 to 5-7

As a Registered Nurse, you will provide knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patients, families, nurses, and healthcare delivery teams. To help achieve our mission, you will consistently provide safe and therapeutic care in a holistic/systematic way while incorporating differences into the provision of care and conducting all patient care in a patient/family-centered manner. Your ability to integrate knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum, to include patient and family education, is of vital importance. Communicating effectively and working cooperatively with others while having respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines is required.

Duties:

Performs biopsychosocial assessments on patientsProvides medications and treatments to patientsServes as a resource for patients and families regarding medical questionsDevelops plan of careWorks with the interdisciplinary team to assist adult patients in meeting treatment goalsReports to the Nurse Manager.

Requirements:

Experience Required: 1 year of Registered Nurse clinical experienceEducation: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associates Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 24 months of start date.Certification: BLS certification required.Licensure: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment.Special Skills: Proficient in English. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to display a caring demeanor toward others. Proficient computer skills required.
