What you'll do
Viasat has an immediate opening for a Senior Communication Systems Engineer to join our team and help us continue to build on our successful 30-year legacy in end-to-end space, tactical, and enterprise network communications systems for our nation’s space, air, and terrestrial platforms. This position provides a unique opportunity to develop ground breaking technologies and work closely with our customers to develop multi-function systems from concept to implementation that support our nation's most critical defense programs. This includes algorithm development, modem development, laser communications, firmware development, integration, and implementation on hardware.
The day-to-day
In this exciting and dynamic role, you will report into the Global Space Networks organization while working closely and collaboratively with other Viasat team members to identify, pursue, capture, and execute high priority opportunities in support of strategic growth goals.
What you'll need
12+ years’ experience in Lasercom space payload design with ability to communicate associations of the design trade3+ years experience with space based laser comms to include design, development, manufacturing, operations of lasercom payloadsAdvanced waveform/modem architecture developmentProven experience working with interdisciplinary teams including Business Development, Systems, Software, RF circuits, FPGA design, and othersValidated experience in the development of trade studiesProven customer engagement and subcontractor management experienceStrong analytic/mathematics background with experience in system modeling, simulation, and analysisProficiency using MATLABStrong system, software, or test background including design and implementationStrong technical leadershipBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical disciplineU.S. Government Position. U.S. Citizenship RequiredActive DoD Secret ClearanceAbility to travel up to 10% domestic travel
This role can be based in Carlsbad, CA, Tempe, AZ, Cleveland, OH or Marlborough, MA.

Salary range
$176,200.00 - $306,200.00 / annually
