Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure.Using the principles of asepsis, prepares instruments, supplies, and sutures for the surgical procedure.Assists in properly positioning patient.Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.Provides appropriate instrumentation and supplies to surgeon during procedures.Performs appropriate counts with nurse according to policy.Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.Helps in draping sterile field.Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure.Prepares sterile dressings.Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of the room.Assists in prepping room for the next patient.Cleans and restocks the operating room according to departmental protocols.Washes and assembles instruments and supplies according to departmental protocols.Assembles and checks instrument and equipment functionality prior to procedure; follows up on repairs and replacements of instruments as requested.Completes review of physician preference lists ensuring communication and validation of correct supplies and instruments for surgical procedure.Evaluates the safe implementation of electrical equipment ensuring patient safety; follows all policy and procedures addressing patient safety.Handles and processes pathology specimens, cultures, drugs, and other items on the sterile field.Keeps accurate counts of medications and irrigating solutions used during the surgical procedure.Maintains patient confidentiality.Transports patients to and from the operating room.Precepts new orientees and students in Surgical Technologist program.As a certified surgical technologist, performs the role of second assisting to the surgeon and/or to the first assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out technical tasks other than cutting, clamping, and suturing of tissue. Duties include but are not exclusive to the following:Holds retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon.Sponges or suctions operative site.Applies electrocautery to clamps on bleeders.Cuts suture material as directed by the surgeon.Connects drains to suction apparatus.Applies dressings to closed wound.II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:BLS CertificationSurgical Technologist certification requiredGraduate of an approved Surgical Technologist programExperience/Skills:

Required:Well organized and possess high degree of manual dexterity.Excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service, and communication skills required OR equivalent combination of the above.Preferred:3 years experience in a hospital-based surgical service preferred.Unless certification, licensure, or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
