MISSION STATEMENTThe mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.SUMMARYThe primary purpose of the position is to provide analysis of business and management financial data for strategic clinical and research financial planning and assist in implementing processes to maximize efficiencies, as required for efficient accounting management. Provides skilled accounting experience for a variety of department financial processes, including the preparation of the annual budget and daily management of the department accounting system and grant management. Impacts operational procedures and practices in the department, allocates grant money, and calculates burn rate and projected grant funding. Performs special assignments as required and prepares detailed audit reports, cost reports, etc., for departmental and institutional use.JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIESFinancial Processes/AccountingResponsible for the overall financial needs of the departments.Performs monthly salary trending for all departmental chartfields.Systematically reviews all accounts for overdrafts, personnel trending, payroll reconciliation and discrepancies. Follows up with the Department Administrator to initiate and execute corrective actions.Compiles and projects status of accounts on a monthly basis.Prepares the annual budget.Provides monthly reports summarizing available funds to the Department Administrator.Monitors, audits and initiates the reallocation of funds and transfers.Reviews Epic and other source reports for all patient care sponsor billable charges.Reviews source documents and monitors billed service charges from other departments and service centers.Follows up with Grants and contracts, and other MDACC departments on payments received and posted.Analyzes/forecasts accounts as requested by faculty and/or Department Administrator.Prepares monthly STAT sampling.Generates specialized financial metrics reports as requested by the chairs, Department Administrator and/or institutional leadership.Possesses a working knowledge of federal/state financial regulations, and university financial policies and procedures.Financial Processes/Reconciliation and Report PreparationResponsible for ensuring that the monthly reconciliations are completed on a timely basis and within institutional guidelines on all departmental funds including, but not limited to, start-up funds, incentive funds, chairman's funds, grant funds, foundation and donor funds, industry-sponsored funds, endowed fellowships, and sponsored projects residual funds.Performs a high-level review of monthly reconciliation reports on faculty development funds, departmental M&O, and patent royalty funds.Interacts with all levels of personnel within the department, other institutional departments, as well as outside agencies to resolve problems/errors or questions regarding accounting reconciliation items.Works with departmental Administrative Director to determine best practices for account reconciliations and purchase order closures.Implements and oversees self-audit checks and procedures to maintain financial integrity. Creates and reviews procedures to ensure fiscal transparency and maintain archival backup of necessary documentation.In the event of an audit, complies fully and provides all requested materials.Maintains a financial database for the Departments to track sources of funds for all departmental grants and contracts, philanthropic donations, clinical trials, private industry awards, and correlate with the department’s grants and contracts’ database to generate monthly reports for the respective Chair and the Department Administrator.Prepares monthly financial reports for review with the Department Administrator prior to distributing to individual faculty within the department.Prepares monthly comparative data to report on variances as opposed to budget.Meets required deadlines and provides formal and ad hoc reports as requested by the leadership.Other duties as assignedREQUIREMENTSEducation:
