Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for the Department of Medicine/Division of Infectious Diseases within the New Jersey Medical School. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a licensed independent practitioner who works collaboratively with the care team to provide psychiatric, and substance use services to persons living with or affected by HIV at the Infectious Disease Practice in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations, nursing practice standards of care, clinical and DHHS guidelines. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assessment and diagnosis, formulation of treatment plans, medication management, letters in support of gender-affirming treatment, patient education, and referrals for continuity of care, all in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession. Additionally, the APN will be responsible for assisting clinic operations, serve as a key mental health resource for medical and social service staff in the clinic, and maintain flexibility to work some evening hours as needed.Key Duties

Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history for patients.Consults with collaborating psychiatrist and/or Medical Director as appropriate when patient's presentation falls outside established guidelines.Provides crisis intervention, physical and psychosocial examination of clinic patients in need of psychiatric services.Serves as psychiatric clinical expert and resource for the practice, focused on quality of care and safety of patients with mental illness.Integral member of multidisciplinary team composed of physicians, registered nurses, medical case managers, patient navigators, and certified medical assistants.Participates in the review and development of specific policies, procedures, and practice guidelines related to mental health.Participates in departmental, hospital and/or system-level committees and task forces as a representative of the department, and the practice as requested.Position Status:

Minimum Education and Experience

Successful completion of a Masters level Nurse Practitioner Program with a Specialty in Psychiatric Nursing.At least five years of experience as a nurse in a clinical setting.Certifications/Licenses

Licensed as a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of New Jersey.Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Certification.Must maintain BLS (CPR).Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent assessment skills are essential.Must exhibit cultural sensitivity to working with diverse populations.Excellent organizational and communication skills.Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft Office components.Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working with adult populations with HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases, as well as substance abuse care and treatment and LGBTQ+ health-related concerns, including gender-affirming mental health care.
