HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSIONThe Wildlife Care Associate will support San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s mission of saving species worldwide by handling trained wildlife used in visitor presentations, public contact, and educational programs. This position reports to a Wildlife Care Supervisor/Manager.WHAT YOU WILL DOHandles trained wildlifeReinforces trained behaviorTransports wildlife from compound areas to show areasProvides public with information and answers questions regarding wildlifeFeeds and cares for assigned wildlifeCleans and maintains animal compound areasExercises wildlifeProvides general grooming of wildlifePrepares and feeds wildlifeKeeps feeding recordsAdministers prescribed medication and nutritional supplementsMaintains logs and records concerning animal health and careObserves wildlifeWHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOROne to two years of work experience in a Zoo or similar environment where appropriate knowledge and skills in and around animal food preparation for wildlife care could be acquired.JOB EXPERIENCEOne to two years of work experience in a Zoo or similar environment where appropriate knowledge and skills in wildlife care could be acquired.EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONSBachelor’s Degree in Zoology, Animal Science, Animal Management, or other related field preferred.SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGEWildlife behaviorCare, feeding and handling of wildlifeSafety practices around wildlifeLearn the handling and control of a variety of trained wildlifeDiscriminate differences in animal vocalizationsDeal tactfully and courteously with the publicKeep simple recordsEffectively communicate (verbal and written)Operate motorized equipment and vehiclesSOME OF THE PERKS YOU WILL ENJOY AS A TEAM MEMBERFree admission to the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari ParkFamily PassesComplimentary TicketsLocal and In-House DiscountsEmployee Assistance ProgramWellness ProgramIMPORTANT DETAILSPosition Type: Hourly Full-Time Non-Exempt Union Position - If selected, there will be fees and dues to be paid to the union.
