Kirby Bates Associates has been exclusively retained by Barnes-Jewish Hospital to lead a national search for their next Director, Patient Care – Ambulatory Services.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH) at Washington University Medical Center, with 1,431 licensed beds, is a nationally renowned, academic medical center and the affiliated teaching hospital of Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM). BJH was the first adult hospital in MO to be designated as a Magnet Hospital and earned its fifth Magnet designation in 2023. For 31 consecutive years, since the inception of the process, BJH has been placed on U.S. News & World Report honor roll of America’s Best Hospitals. BJH serves as the area’s regional referral center and is a member of BJC HealthCare, one of the nation’s largest healthcare organizations.

The Director, Patient Care – Ambulatory Services (Director) will provide operational oversight within the service line and participate in strategic planning at the service line, facility, and system level. Provides nurses with an environment that supports their professional practice, health, and well-being. The Director will have oversight of operational and capital budgets as well as quality metrics and staff/patient satisfaction. The scope of services includes 5 Resident Clinics: OB/GYN, Primary Care, Psychiatry, Surgical Wound/Hyperbaric and Specialty Care. Procedural areas: GI Labs, Pain Management Center, Interventional Pulmonology, Outpatient Infusion, and Sickle Cell Treatment Center. Leadership structure: 3 Senior Clinical Program Managers and 10 Managers across the service line.

Opportunity Highlights:

Collaborate with Medical Directors and WUSM leaders in establishing dyad models of care.

Coach, guide, and mentor leadership team and staff to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care focused on patient safety and high reliability.

Establish performance metrics to measure success and develop action plans for performance improvement in collaboration with dyad physician partnerships.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, one of which must be in Nursing. Eligible for RN license in MO.

Minimum of five years of contemporary leadership experience or service line leadership experience in a complex ambulatory setting.

Proven experience improving throughput and ensuring access to care.

Experience with underserved populations; able to build an inclusive environment for patients, families, and employees.

Pay:

$175,000.00 - $195,000.00 per year
