Summary

The

Project Engineer

supports field activities and spends a majority of time working with the Project Manager supporting project administration on multiple small projects, or one medium to large-size project. Activities include managing the job transition process; and supporting the management of cost and schedule, constructability, technical evaluations, quality, safety, work planning, procurement, contract management, regulatory compliance, etc.

Roles and Responsibilities

The

Project Engineer

will possess competency in the following areas in order to perform his/her role in a safe, productive, and effective manner. Generates and obtains approvals of monthly billing and earned valuesDevelops and manages the project schedule on small or mid-sized projectsAnalyzes targets and goals, job cost summaries, and other reportsAlerts the Superintendent and Project Manager of project impact relating to resource management, crew make-up/size, etc.Generates and obtains approval of the initial budget and subsequent updates, and reviews weekly job cost summaries and advises the Project ManagerGenerates estimates of change orders and may interface with pre-construction on original bidsCollaborates with pre-construction and the project team to manage the job transition process, communicate project requirements, and develop the initial procurement plans, budgets, etc.Generates material quantity take-offs, scoping documents, terms and conditions, delivery, etc. as applicable to support the procurement processGenerates requests for proposal(s), solicits and reviews quotations, and recommends a procurement decision to Project ManagerPrepares field purchase orders for standard purchase packages, and generates and obtains approval of Major Purchase OrdersGathers and roughs-in monthly financial reports, and participates in the project financial reviewsWorks with the Project Manager to approve and code project invoicesGenerates and obtains approval of technical records such as constructability reports, RFI's, inspection records, work packages and deviation reportsCoordinates with the Superintendent, Field Project Engineer, and Line and Grade to generate required as-built recordsManages work package closure, punch lists, and project turnover process and approves pre- and post-pour checklistsCollects necessary documentation to identify and determine impact of potential contract changes, disputes, and claimsLeads LEAN/SQP committee and identifies improvement opportunitiesEnsures all subcontractors are in compliance with terms of subcontracts, generates, and obtains approval on impact notices as neededReviews and confirms reports documenting compliance (Company and subcontractors) with prevailing wage, workforce utilization, MBE/SBE participation, etc., and advises the Project Manager of issuesInterfaces with Safety and Risk Management in establishing clinics, managing first report of injuries, and assisting with co-worker case managementFollows Company Recruitment and Hiring GuidelinesMay conduct new-hire orientation and process E-Verify (must be certified)May coordinate tracking and completion of training requirements with project management

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years' of experience or 6 years' of construction related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceProficiency in Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPointThe following competencies are needed to successfully perform this job:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and government regulationsAbility to write reports, business correspondence, and proceduresAbility to communicate well with all levels of workers involved with the projectAbility to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, and trigonometry to practical situationsAbility to analyze and compute mathematical differences from all stages of drawings from conceptual to final drawings including development of shop drawingsAbility to understand Cost AccountingBasic understanding of construction software such as Primavera, Timberline, Vista and the likeAbility to understand, customize and modify spreadsheetsAbility to direct work and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of co-workersAbility to work in a team environmentAbility to define problems, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusionsAbility to develop construction schedule via the critical path methodAbility to understand contracts, specifications, drawings, and scope of workAbility to be proactive in maximizing our return on investment at all time
