Major Responsibilities:Positioning of patients and proper selection of technical factors and equipment to obtain scans of optimal quality, making use of any necessary immobilization techniques.Delivery of patient care in accordance with department standards of continued quality improvement.Documentation for department records (i.e., inventories of supplies and patient statistics) to ensure adequate supplies and proper patient records.Responsible for securing pertinent history from the patient for each procedure, in order to provide the radiologist with adequate information before film interpretation.Compliance with established Accrediting Organization and hospital safety standards to ensure patient and staff well-being at all times.Responsible for keeping abreast of current ultrasound skills and new developments in the field of ultrasound.Instruction and assistance as required by students or fellow technologists orienting in ultrasound.Education/Experience Required:ARDMS Registry eligible. ARDMS Registry to be successfully completed within the first year of employment.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:Possess a high degree of technical knowledge to perform more specialized U/S studies with minimal assistance from the Radiologist.Able to make diagnostic judgments when scanning and present them to the Radiologist for their interpretation.CPR Certification.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to adjust to flexible hours at minimal notice as required.Ability to work odd hours (late hours on-call).Ability to respond to emergency call back in minimal time.Ability to stand for long periods of time.Ability to constantly view small CRT screens during exams.Ability to perform lifting activities related to patients.Exposed to radiation.Ability to operate portable equipment.Ability to deal with extremely ill patients.Ability to communicate with patients.Ability to adjust to flexible work hours, including weekends and holidays.Ability to participate in the on-call program and available to department needs with minimal notice.Ability to do light, medium, or heavy lifting.This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., understand child growth and development; normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging.
