VAD Coordinator RN (RN) Cardiac Recovery Room Full Time Day

Staffed with more than 800 physicians, 3200 employees, and 150 volunteers, our hospital is ready to provide you and your family with the quality care you need.At Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, we are committed to quality and excellence in patient care.Qualifications:Required:BSNGraduate of an accredited school of nursing requiredA minimum of 3 years’ experience, with at least 2 of those in cardiology with an emphasis on mechanical circulatory supportPreferred:Knowledge of standard of care treatment for heart failure including VADsStrong cardiac backgroundHeart Transplant experienceCertifications and Licenses Required:Active NJ RN license or compact RN license with NJ endorsementBLS from the American Heart AssociationACLS from the American Heart AssociationScheduling Requirements:Day Shift, 8:30a - 4:30p (variable and not guaranteed)Full-Time, 37.5 hoursMonday – Friday, position requires on call and weekend and holiday hoursEssential Functions:The RN performs patient assessment, facilitates coordination of services and care, including: patient assessment, patient, family, staff and community education programs, and documentation.Assists in the development of clinical practice guidelines, usage tracking, MCS database, new project/device implementation and participates in program related quality assurance/performance improvement activities.Serves as the primary technical support for staff and patients requiring mechanical cardiac assist.Performs direct patient care duties and triage patient phone calls.Participates in intra and interdisciplinary programs and committees, attend organ selection committee meetings, quality assurance performance improvement (QAPI) review meetings, departmental education meetings, and participate in hospital education to staff as warranted, which may include annual competency training and/or initial orientation.Edit, and maintain the electronic medical records and regulatory electronic data submission elements. Compile, calculate, and analyze statistical, medical, and operational data to report to government, regulatory, and medical organizations. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of required regulatory care plans and organ sharing forms (if indicated).Track quality data indicators and provide on-time monthly reporting for department QA and for Intermacs.Collaborates with perfusionists and assistance with set up of new implants in the operating room. Assist staff during surgical cases to provide guidance and/or troubleshooting as necessary.Maintain and deliver necessary VAD equipment to locations within the institution as needed for patient safety. Track annual preventative maintenance with Biomed ensuring accurate inventory of all devices and associated components.Other Duties:Provide clinical expertise to all hospital departments on the use of VADs, care of the patient and patient management. Provide day to day patient management to ensure quality care and mentor inpatient nurses in the care of this patient population. Work with nursing education to provide annual refresher education and competence. Manage patients in the outpatient setting. Work with health care providers in patients’ local community to recognize the device and how to provide basic support. Collaborate with research staff to ensure all protocols are followed.
