The UTRGV SOM seeks to hire a highly qualified faculty to lead and teach clinical skills and simulation within the pre-clerkship curriculum of the medical education program. The Clinical Skills Course Director will ensure innovative clinical skills, simulation, and assessment are implemented while applying best practices and the most up-to-date techniques. The identified faculty will be expected to design, implement and assess a comprehensive and cohesive course within the curriculum that ensures fulfillment of standards for exceptional clinical skills competencies in line with the SOM medical education program objectives, the central curricular authority committee, and LCME standards. The identified faculty will facilitate, plan and implement OSCEs within the curriculum and develop innovative assessments to evaluate student’s clinical competence in history taking, physical examination, differential diagnoses development, medical documentation (H&P, SOAP notes) and patient-centered communication. The pre-clerkship clinical skills director will collaborate with the clinical skills staff to develop and implement a uniform standardized patient program. The faculty will also be required to utilize clinical skills and simulation curricular/educational technology platforms (i.e. Simulation IQ, Blackboard, Progress IQ, One4, etc.) to collect data and monitor student’s progress in achieving annual milestones and competence. Position has a full-time instructional mandate, and the recruited candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring of first- and second-year medical students, in addition to contributing to associated activities such as curricular/course development, or the implementation of new and innovative pedagogies. In addition to their instructional responsibilities, faculty are encouraged to pursue scholarly activities, especially in areas related to medical education. All faculty are expected to contribute to the SOM via participation in service-related activities including committee/workgroup membership and other volunteer efforts.Minimum Qualifications

M.D., D.O., P.A., N.P. or equivalent degree and prior experience in simulation in academic medicine.Discipline Specific Required Qualifications

Clinical Skills and simulation training or certification.Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience in an LCME-accredited medical school.License or Certification Required?

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.Special Instructions to Applicants

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
