Position Summary

Works directly with the director of radiation oncology in partnership with the medical director, physicians, therapist, department ancillary staff, and other departments within the medical center. Participates in the recruitment of technical staff, trains all therapists and key ancillary staff ensuring that a high level of clinical quality, productivity, and customer service are upheld. Responsible for the supervision and management of staff in the clinical treatment area. Coordinates technical functions and patient care activities related to the radiation treatments machines, simulator, and hyperthermia; coordinates radiation therapist activities. Will be part of the machine rotation to deliver ionizing radiation treatments, perform simulations and hyperthermia treatments. Demonstrate leadership and ability to make decisions and problem solving. Ensures policies and procedure practices are followed to maintain compliance with all accrediting agencies to ensure optimum patient care and safety by providing high-quality, cost-effective services.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

Performs and documents all simulation, imaging and ionizing and non-ionizing treatments by utilizing unit based protocols, policies and procedures and working within the scope of practice for a radiation therapist to meet goals of care and as ordered by the Radiation Oncologist.

Coordinates and manages daily technical operations and patient care activities to maintain adequate coverage of quality of service in the treatment/simulation area or areas assigned. Oversee equipment performance to ensure adequate maintenance, maintain logs, and report any damages and equipment failure.

Maintain communication with physicians, management, and staff to ensure quality standards are met and department/hospital policies are followed. Manage high level of productivity while maintaining quality and following standard workflows and quality standards.

Oversee the delivery of prescribed courses of treatment to assure continuity of care, proper and accurate documentation of treatments and effective use of automated systems.

Maintains compliance with all accrediting State, National and other bodies or agencies such as but not limited to TJC, CMS and ACR.

Maintains charge capture proficiencies in the assigned areas and works with leadership for the business operation of the radiation oncology department such as billing and authorization practices.

Supports Director and works with other areas of Radiation Oncology in creating, updating and implementing new policies and Procedures and standard work.

Performs other duties as assigned.
