Position Summary

Salary Range for this position is $74,904/yr. to $103,440/yr. (DOE)

Under the supervision of the Dean of Student Support Services, the Director of Student Leadership and Engagement will be responsible for assisting with the overall planning operations, staffing, programming, strategic planning, and promoting student engagement through student government, clubs, organizations, and student events and activities. This position will build and maintain purposeful partnerships at the College and within the broader community while supporting the College’s mission and goals.

This position provides supervision and ongoing support to the student leaders and hourly employees in the form of training, mentoring, assigning work, and projects. This position collaborates with the campus community to develop programming that fosters a safe, supportive, and responsive environment that promotes and values equity, diversity, and inclusion. This position provides leadership in student government, student events and activities, and student clubs and organizations and is expected to collaborate with others to support student engagement, retention, and completion initiatives. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.

This position supervises three Program Specialist 2s in Student Leadership and Engagement.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-SPS Pro-Staff.

This position is typically scheduled to work Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM. The schedule may vary depending on program needs. May be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.

What you will be working on:

Create a strong student leadership team with a shared mission and values surrounding the core value of inclusiveness and equity-mindedness.

Each year, develop clear achievable goals that focus on student engagement of all students at the college and maintain strong ties and partnerships with the other campus-based programs.

Direct and supervise inclusive experiences through student leadership, engagement activities, clubs, and organizations to create a robust effort to engage and retain all North Seattle College students.

Coordinate with other campus events, activities, and programs centering around students’ identities and needs as it pertains to being successful students at North Seattle College.

Supervise Fee Board Supervisors and provide leadership and management over fee boards to increase student engagement through inclusive programming.

Coordinate and facilitate the recruitment and hiring process of diverse student leaders annually.

Lead and facilitate the development of student leadership training for new student leaders.

Collaborate with Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Community (EDIC) for EDIC training for Student Leadership.

Facilitate fee boards for the Universal Technology Fee (UTF) and S&A fees.

Develop and maintain 522 budgets for student services and activities fees (S&A fees). Create documents for reporting and compliance purposes. Oversee general accounting, purchasing, and reconciliation of accounts for the S&A programs.

Develop, maintain, and report on student services and activities fees (S&A). Includes developing and adhering to compliance and deadline limitations, the process for needs assessment and applications for recruitment of campus programs, holding review committee meetings, and finalization of S&A fee budgets alongside the student fee board.

Facilitate and coordinate the North Seattle College’s portion of the Graduation programs.

Supervise student side of communication efforts including social media, emails, and Canvas Bulletin.

Represent Student Leadership at MSSDC/CUSP statewide councils.

Represent Student Leadership on the New Student Orientation Planning Committee.

Collaborate/Support 522 funded programs across the college.

Participate in Services and Activities Budget Committee.

Represent Student Leadership and Engagement on campus committees/task forces.

Stay abreast and current on innovative strategies to recruit/engage student leaders and clubs/organizations.

Provide Student Process Advocacy services for students navigating the school’s student complaints system.

Other duties as assigned.

What you bring as a candidate:

Master’s degree in Education, Human Services, or related field

One or more years-experience working with educational programming or equivalent experience

Knowledge of and a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice

Ability to work, collaborate and provide support to individuals and groups from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

Effective oral and written communication

Strong organizational skills

Proficient use with programs such as Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform a range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
