Under general direction of the Director of Business Services (MSO), the Senior Budget and Finance Analyst is responsible for the budget, account management, and financial analysis for the department which includes the units for clinical operations, research, administrative unit, and the Medical Education Office. In conjunction with the Director of Business Services, the incumbent will be responsible for development and implementation of budget planning and financial management.

Your Role on the Team

Uses minimal supervision/direction from the Director of Business Services, the incumbent serves as the Senior Budget and Finance Analyst for the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the School of Medicine. Independently provides analytical and financial management services to develop budget, prepare reports, perform trend analysis and projections, forecast revenue and expenses using financial and clinical data. Incumbent will also review financial transactions and train staff when necessary.

Position requires skills to provide financial interpretation, clarification and procedural guidelines for faculty, staff, vendors, etc. Position will also manage account activities and oversee financial transactions, reconcile accounts, perform journal entries and fund transfers, and ensure adequate records are kept for audit purposes. Resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Responsibilities require a thorough understanding of complex policies including University procedures and resources, to execute financial projects involving problem resolution, collection of data, systems analysis, and production of comprehensive reports. Contacts are both internal and external to the department.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.Ability to independently gather required information to organize and perform financial analysis assignments.Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; strong service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Proven ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment.Ability to adapt to changing priorities.Ability to function as a member of a team.Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.

Preferred:Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.Previous experience in an academic setting or private physician office.Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of trends in healthcare delivery system, the provision of care, and other emerging issues in healthcare management.Working knowledge of UCI cost accounting standards.Total CompensationIn addition to the salary range listed below, we offer a wealth of benefits to make working at UCI even more rewarding.
