ResponsibilitiesPurpose of Your PositionTo plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care provided, including restorative care for residents. As the direct care provider of health services, he/she shares appropriate information with all other health services staff in an effort to assist each resident in achieving his/her maximum level of development.Position Functions and ResponsibilitiesPromotes Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission and Core Values of Respecting and Embracing Diversity, Excellence, Collaboration, Innovation, Evolution, Growth and Change, and Loving Relationships by bringing these values to life in the organization.Utilizing the nursing process, the RN assesses the resident, plans intervention, and evaluates the outcome of care provided.Performs treatments and special care as required, e.g., tracheotomy care, central venous lines, oxygen administration, cast care, dressing changes, etc.Administers medication and immunization as ordered.Confers with physician or other health team members regarding patient care management.Assists the physician in performing physical examinations and treatments.Evaluates the effects of prescribed treatment including orthotics and reports same to appropriate disciplines.Observes, reports, and records abnormal vital signs, seizure activity, other disease manifestations, and other clinically significant data.Implements the plan of care as outlined in the resident’s Interdisciplinary Care Plan including positioning, play, feeding techniques, behavior modifications plan, etc.Participates in completing MDS and revises care plan as resident condition changes.Assumes the role of nurse in charge of a unit for the shift as assigned.Educates residents and families with regard to their treatment plan.Documents interventions and teaching outcomes accurately and timely.Maintains a safe therapeutic resident care environment.Directs and supervises CNAs, unit clerks, LPNs, and other RNs when in charge.Establishes effective working relations with staff, residents, and family members.Ensures that the Center and the Department of Nursing policies and procedures are followed in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.Reviews medication administration records for completeness at the end of the shift.Gives and receives the nursing report and follows through on any special instructions.When in charge, makes periodic checks to ensure that prescribed treatments are being properly administered by LPNs and CNAs and evaluates the residents' physical and emotional status.Participates in the orientation of new staff, residents, and families to the unit.Carries out restorative and rehabilitative programs including teaching residents to wash/feed/dress self as appropriate.Ensures that the facility policy on the use of restraints is followed and that documentation is timely and accurate.Ensures that the unit is kept clean and free from clutter and that the supply room door is kept locked; requests the supervisor’s intervention as necessary to achieve this.Follows infection control standards and ensures that assigned personnel do likewise.Keeps abreast of new nursing policies and procedures.Keeps nurses' notes, plan of care, and all other documentation pertaining to your assigned resident timely, accurate, and complete.Carries out end-of-shift responsibilities, e.g., ensures supplies are available for the next shift, unit is clean and tidy, and all documentation is complete and accurate.Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.QualificationsGraduate of an accredited RN program.NYS RN License.NYS RN Registration Certificate.Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in nursing preferred.Current BCLS certification.ExperienceOne (1) year clinical experience in a pediatric and/or adolescent chronic rehabilitative care facility preferred.Employee Requirements:Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Center which includes a medical and physical examination.Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary.Working Conditions:Will work in a well-lighted and ventilated area.Will be subject to frequent interruptions.May be asked to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.Hourly Salary Range:$55.45/Hr. to $67.21/Hr.
