Job Summary

The Director for Strategic College Data Analysis provides analytics to support decision-making for the College of Engineering Dean's Leadership Team. The director leads the acquisition and transformation of institutional data sources from various operational units on campus and from external data sources while maintaining security, privacy and human subject considerations. Identifies key metrics of success and provides expert analysis, information, and recommendations to Dean, Associate Deans, faculty and staff. Prepares reporting of data to external agencies for the purpose of accreditation, ranking, benchmarking, and strategic analysis. Shares strategic decision data, educational research and evaluation results, lessons learned and recommendations with internal constituencies in a user-focused format including reports, research briefs, presentations, and data dashboards. Complete statistical reporting surveys for annual USNWR (U.S. News & World Report) Best Engineering Schools and American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). Serve as the College data programming liaison for downloading large data sets from campus systems, including the design, programming and implementation of complex queries using application software. Facilitate training and direct users to learning materials as necessary to properly understand how to use data tools.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Education, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience using Structured Query Language (SQL), knowledge of basic SQL functions and sub-queries required. Familiarity with using data visualization tools (i.e. Tableau and Power BI) and tool sets for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis (i.e. R, SPSS).Experience developing statistical reports, spreadsheets including ability to write and review data and select pertinent information for dissemination to departments leadership.Experience providing standardized reports annually and ability to research, analyze, and summarize trends in a timely manner.Excellent interpersonal, organization, problem-solving, analytical, and time management skills, including judgment and accuracy.Proven skills to prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines in a consistent, timely and professional manner.Skills to collaborate with senior leadership, work effectively and independently on multiple priorities with strict deliverable dates. Handle highly sensitive/confidential information.

Preferred QualificationsA Master's degree in Sociology, Education, Economics, Statistics, Operations Research, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum 2 years of progressive responsibility and professional experience in a higher education institution working with University data - admissions, student, finance, financial aid, and others.Experience working with Banner and the Campus Data Warehouse tables and data structure.Experience designing, writing, debugging, implementing and maintaining automated and ad-hoc queries, local relational databases and webpages.Working knowledge of administrative functions, such as accounting, payroll, academic personnel, and student procedures to provide technical solutions and streamline workload issues.

Department Overview

Collaborates with college and campus IT personnel, attends meetings to stay up-to-date with campus changes to data structures and design; and debugs and implements coding to respond to data changes. Networks with Student Affairs, Budget and Institutional Analysis, Office of Research, Extramural Accounting (post award - campus contracts and grants unit), Graduate Studies, Undergraduate Admissions, and Center for Educational Effectiveness to convey college's institutional data needs to help with strategic program investment and growth. Works collaboratively with college leadership team (dean, associate and assistant deans), college and department managers, administrators, and staff as well as managers/directors in development and external relations and communications and marketing.
