CytopathologyJob Summary:

Performs microscopic detection and diagnosis of cancer, premalignant changes, and other non-neoplastic diseases, and assists with fine needle aspiration procedures under occasional guidance. Responsible for the accurate performance of laboratory tests and other duties in a manner that complies with all approved protocols. This position will primarily be at The Vanderbilt Clinic but will rotate at both The Vanderbilt Clinic and the new Metro Center lab.Department Summary:Our new 110,000-square-foot diagnostic core laboratory supports the needs of Vanderbilt University Medical Center's inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, regional hospitals, and extramural practice customers. Located five miles north of the 21st Avenue Nashville campus, the laboratory has expanded capacity to bring more testing to Vanderbilt, deploy innovative technology, improve patient care, and enhance team collaboration. The laboratory offers an expanded test menu supporting routine and specialized testing and aims to become the preferred reference laboratory provider in the southeast region.Shift:

The sign-on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past twelve months. The sign-on bonus is only available for full-time positions.Key Responsibilities:Provides patient-focused care in a clinical setting through the accurate microscopic evaluation of cell samples from gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens to enable a diagnosis and assists with fine needle aspiration collection.Actively participates in compliance and quality management activities on a daily basis and special projects as indicated.Effectively uses laboratory computer programs and medical center applications according to laboratory policies and procedures.The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.Consideration may be given to candidates that can obtain certification within 120 days, in accordance with state guidelines.Technical Capabilities:Patient Evaluation (Novice):

Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to conduct a patient evaluation in practical applications of moderate difficulty.Diagnostic Testing (Novice):

Demonstrates proficiency of diagnostic testing in practical applications.Mentoring & Coaching (Novice):

Constructively trains and mentors others by providing positive direction and feedback.Specimen Collection (Novice):

Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate specimen collection in practical applications of moderate difficulty.Quality Assurance (Novice):
