We are driven to craft the world's best rye whiskey from grain to glass.SummaryThe Laboratory Technician will play a key role in maintaining the quality and consistency of our rye whiskey. The ideal teammate will have basic to intermediate scientific knowledge and will be responsible for collecting, organizing, and interpreting data related to our distillation processes. This role also involves running a sensory program with participants ranging from novice to advanced.Key ResponsibilitiesData Collection & Scientific Analysis:Collect samples from various stages of the distillation process, from raw materials to finished products.Utilize laboratory equipment and techniques to routinely analyze samples, ensuring accuracy and reliability toward quality standards.Organize and interpret data to track trends and identify any deviations from quality standards.Sensory Program Management:Maintain and manage sensory evaluation programs to assess product quality.Train and guide participants of varying experience levels in sensory evaluation techniques and provide feedback.Analyze sensory data to help guide product development and maintain consistency in flavor profiles.Laboratory Maintenance:Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy, precision and reliability.Follow standard operating procedures and safety protocols to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and functionality of the entire laboratory.Reporting & Documentation:Prepare detailed reports on laboratory findings and sensory evaluations.Maintain accurate and organized records of tests, analyses, and sensory evaluations.QualificationsHigh school diploma with basic to intermediate scientific knowledge required, Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science, or a related field preferred.Previous experience in a laboratory setting, ideally within the beverage or distillation industry, preferred but not required.Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, troubleshoot processes and laboratory equipment, and provide actionable insights.Experience in sensory evaluation or willingness to learn and manage a sensory program.Skilled use of Microsoft Office Suite—specifically Excel, Access, Power BI, and Power Apps, or willingness to learn.Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to humbly work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.Safety focused.Passionate about the craft of distilling and takes pride in accomplishments.
