JOB SUMMARY:

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is responsible for providing students with training in diagnosis, treatment planning, sequencing, and the actual treatment of assigned patients in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Advise students during consultations in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.Provide third year dental students with basic practice training in Oral Surgery disciplines.Teach students to evaluate oral pathology and perform soft tissue biopsies.Respond to emergency situations in the LECOM - Dental Group Practices.Supervise the administration of nitrous oxide for sedation during oral surgical procedures.Teach General Dentistry Faculty basic Oral Surgery Procedures.Contribute to overall student success, advising, and student outcomes.Participate in scholarly activity to enrich the student learning experience.Engage in community outreach and fundraising activities.Accept other duties as needed for practice needs.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate essential functions of the job.Computer experience in dental or related fields for axiUm program entry.Knowledge of Patient Relations and Scheduling.Compliance with State and Federal Regulations and Safety Protocols.Strong communication and organizational skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information.Ability to work cooperatively and collegially with others.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education and experience equivalent to an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with a DDS or DMD degree and advanced training from an ADA-accredited Oral Surgery training program. A current Florida dental license (or the ability to obtain one) and ten (10) years or more of experience practicing Oral Surgery is required.
