Under the general direction of the Budgets and Business Services Manager, a Staff Services Manager II, the Staff Services Manager I (SSMI) is responsible for overseeing and managing the District 12 Business Services Branch. The SSM I will plan, organize, coordinate, and direct a staff in the administration of the following activities: Property Control, Cashier, Motorpool, and Mailroom. Serve as chief liaison in all matters relative to the more complex and sensitive projects both internal and external with respect to Business Services.

Working Conditions

Position(s) located in Santa Ana, Orange County

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Special Requirements

Please provide a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) detailing your experience in the Typical Duties as listed per the Duty Statement. The SOQ should be single spaced, size 12 Arial font, maximum two pages in length. The SOQ should have a title of “Statement of Qualifications”, must include responses to the following questions, and restate each question preceding each response in the order they are listed.

Applicants who do not exactly follow these requirements will not be reviewed/considered and will be disqualified.

Demonstrated leadership experience in supervising/working in a lead or acting capacity or managing the performance of others, developing staff, and motivating them to successfully achieve planned goals.

Describe in detail experience in a team environment and the values you demonstrate as a team leader.

Describe the skills or abilities you possess that will strengthen and support a multiple function branch.

Provide level of knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook software (Basic/Intermediate/Advance).
