Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer Systems – Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO or Huntsville, AL.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight.
The Principal Systems Engineer will work in an integrated team environment with other systems and specialty engineers to develop solutions. In this role, the candidate will be flexible and able to support various tasks on short notice.
The selected candidate will perform the work under the direction of the Systems Engineering Lead and multiple product owners and will require interfacing with team members, C2BMC management, and government customers to ensure high-quality products are generated on time and within the resources available.
Essential Functions:
Provide use case briefing development support to junior systems engineering team members.
Adhere to DOORS processes and procedures, reviewing the content and details of technical products.
Support the development and review of interface documents, system/subsystem requirements, and Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM) development.
Participate in Agile development efforts, including iteration planning and status.
Analyze high-level needs and define a structured approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements.
Communicate effectively and present technical approaches and findings.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years experience, or a PhD and 0 years of experience.
Must possess an understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.
Experience working in an integrated team environment to develop solutions.
Proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles.
Experience decomposing requirements from parent-level to subsystem-level requirements.
Experience developing system engineering artifacts (e.g., Interface Control Documents, Use Cases Briefings).
Must be able to write and implement engineering plans.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs.
Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD issued secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working within an Agile development environment.
Domain experience with both Space and Missile Defense.

Colorado Springs, CO = $97,500 - $146,300
Huntsville, AL = $102,400 - $153,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers.
