Job Description

Overview

Assists with care of the patient throughout the perioperative experience. Performs scrub and related duties with a registered nurse. Is responsible for the immediate sterile field and instrumentation. Assists with preparation, maintenance, and cleanup of supplies and equipment. Responsible for sterilization of equipment and instruments when necessary. Prepares operating room for surgical procedures. Provides assistance to nursing and anesthesia staff. Assists with inventory management as well as equipment maintenance. Provides any supportive duties that may be necessary for the efficient, effective, productive provision of patient care and department flow.

Responsibilities

Implements actions to maintain a safe environment for the patient to include but not limited to:Positioning“Time Out”Medication ManagementPrevention of nosocomial infectionImplements actions to prevent patient injury from: positioning, extraneous objects, medications, infection, chemical/physical/electrical hazards.Demonstrates knowledge of all skills and principles necessary in the role (i.e. asepsis, hazmat, blood borne pathogens).Prepares and organizes materials recognizing special needs of patient, procedure and/or surgeon.Assists in room preparation when required.Checks and maintains department equipment and supplies.Safely operates all equipment according to manufacturer specifications. Ensures all necessary instrumentation and equipment are in working order.Implements case breakdown procedure ensuring minimal downtime between cases / assists in room turnover.Demonstrates clinical and technical skills according to established standards of practice.Meets performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development as outlined in performance review.Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the ASC.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONHigh school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of approved school of allied health or surgical technology. CPR certification required.EXPERIENCEOperating room experience preferred.LICENSUREN/ASPECIAL SKILLSNational certification required within 18 months of hire.
