DEFINITIONTo install, service, and repair sprinkling systems and controls.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from the Grounds and Utility Maintenance Supervisor, and functional and technical supervision from a Lead Groundsworker.May exercise functional and technical supervision over grounds maintenance staff.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

- Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Installs, maintains and repairs sprinkling systems for turfed and planted areas including pipes, valves, controls, sprinkler heads and appurtenant materials and fixtures. Overhauls and tests sprinkler heads in the field and in the shop. Troubleshoots malfunctions. Reads blueprints. Designs and redesigns sprinkler systems. Prepares material lists and lays out work at the job site. Participates in the installation, repair, maintenance and programming of electrical and electronic timing clocks. Operates and maintains all types of equipment used in the field of sprinkler repair such as threaders, cutters, test equipment and ditching equipment. May direct workers when installing and maintaining related systems. Performs related duties as assigned.Experience and Education/Training

(These are the minimum experience and education/training standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for examination, as approved on August 27, 1996.)Three years of general maintenance or plumbing experience including two years of experience involving the installation and/or maintenance of irrigation systems.High school graduation or the equivalent.Licenses/Certificates/RegistrationsPossession of an appropriate, valid California driver's license at time of appointment to and during employment in a position in this class.RECRUITMENT TYPE:

This is a non-exempt position, Regular Classified Salary Range 40A. Positions in this class work 8 hours 12 months. The probationary period for employees in this classification is six (6) months (or 130 working days of paid service).BENEFITS:
