The Sr Chemist leads physical organic and synthetic organic research and development, including new product and new process development.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Physical organic, synthetic organic, and process chemistry research and developmentMethod development, literature searching and reaction designChemical apparatus set-up, reactor loading (solvents, raw materials) and unloading on scale from milligram to kilogramsChemical process monitoring and controlPurification and related processes (crystallization, chromatography, rotary evaporation, solvent recovery)Characterization including spectroscopy (ultraviolet, visible, infrared) and data analysis. Record keeping and quality control (Laboratory notebooks, Certificates of Analysis)Chemical equipment and instrument preventive maintenance and repairReporting, both written and oral (Standard Operating Procedures, Production reports)Participation in R&D teams, open communication with colleaguesCompliance with safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, EPA) and internal practicesBASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Master's Degree with experience, organic chemistryExpertise with analytical equipment, for example GC, UV/Vis/NIR spectroscopy, Mass Spec, IR, NMRExcellent oral and written communication skillsExcellent problem-solving skillsAbility to work on individual projects in a team environment of other chemists and chemical engineersAbility and willingness to maintain a safe and clean work environmentAbility to critically analyze professional literature including journals and patentsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PhD, Organic Chemistry with emphasis in both physical and synthetic organic chemistryStrengths in math or engineering as evidenced by coursework or job experienceStrengths in structure property relationshipsExpertise in handling chemicals and chemical equipment on kilogram scalesMechanical skills, including skills in designing and setting up chemical reactorsElectronics skills, particularly for instrument maintenanceExpertise with Microsoft Office applications, SciFinder, ChemDraw, etc.Polymer synthesis and characterizationEmployee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements.
