Principal/Cyber Systems Engineer

to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Tactical Space organization. This position will be located in

Dulles, VA.This Cyber Systems Engineering position is an early-career position that requires demonstrated technical knowledge, cybersecurity certification(s), and other cybersecurity accomplishments that are needed to secure Space Systems. This position has responsibilities focused on a Space Systems Ground Segment and Mission Application Software Security.To be successful, you must have the experience and maturity to work independently as an individual technical contributor and the ability to engage with additional disciplines (DevOps, I&T, Software Dev) to accomplish work tasks. This is a funded requisition for a National Security Space program and requires personnel with fully vetted backgrounds. This team-focused position is primarily engaged during the Development & Implementation mission phase; however, knowledge of the complete Systems Development LifeCycle (SDLC) is essential for mission success. This position requires a broad range of skillsets and interests, including Cybersecurity Systems Engineering, Software Development Lifecycle and RMF ISSE/ISSO responsibilities.Job Responsibilities:Working as an individual contributor representing the Cyber domain within an integrated product team (IPT) to architect, implement, and execute Risk Management Framework (RMF) CyberSecurity requirements of ground command & control (C2) systems and mission application software.Analyzing System & Software Security Engineering requirements in support of satisfying program protection requirements, working with systems engineers to decompose system-level security requirements across the ground segment.Ability to learn and/or contribute to Systems Security Plans (SSPs) documentation for complex space systems, Risk Assessment Reports (RAR), Security Control Traceability Matrices (SCTM), Plan of Actions & Milestones (POA&M), and Security Assessment Reports.Ability to learn and/or perform traditional ISSO responsibilities for complex mission systems, by maintaining all RMF deliverables and assessment procedures and related artifacts.Working Cross-Discipline (DevOps, SA, I&T, SW Dev) to execute Software Security Best-Practices, Continuous Monitoring (ConMon), and re-authorization assessment events.Preparation and Execution of assessment procedures in accordance with NIST 800-53a, to verify conformance with Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community, and/or Special Access Program, IA/Cyber security controls, as required based on the specified customer/system requirements (or security controls).Contributing to the implementation and verification of specific security components by performing systems engineering, integration, and test (SEIT) activities for security-critical components.Demonstrated understanding of one/or more of the following: Static Code Analysis, Vulnerability Scanning, Compliance Scanning, Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) & Dependency Scanning utilizing industry standard tools.Working in an Agile engineering environment, where the Cybersecurity Engineers assist in triage of scan findings (e.g. Fortify) and assist in prioritizing the findings as technical debt in the SwDLC backlog.Providing application security guidance to shepherd software development scrum teams on secure coding practices, security-focused engineering trade studies, and other security best practices for our mission unique software development efforts.Conducting Defensive Cyber Operations activities, including vulnerability scanning, remediation and patch management activities on Windows and RedHat Linux operating systems and various COTS/GOTS applications, including those within virtualized and/or cloud environments.Documenting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and when needed, performing (or contributing to) software patch installation, other flaw remediation, antivirus updates, and ConMon activities.Ensuring systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with security policies and procedures as outlined in the system security plan (SSP), the authorization package, and/or customer-specific guidance.The successful candidate should have:Understanding of/or Experience with industry platform hardening practices, such as DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) implementation, as well as documentation of deviations and mitigations.Understanding of/or Experience with systems/network scanning, remediation, mitigation, and reporting of cybersecurity vulnerabilities discovered through use of audit reduction tools and/or the DISA Automated Security Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) tool or Tenable NESSUS.Understanding of/or Experience conducting security log reviews and implementation of the RMF Assessment & Authorization (A&A) process from system categorization through continuous monitoring.Understanding of/or Experience with Application Static Application Security Testing (SAST), Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST), or Software Dependency Vulnerability Scanning Tools.Familiarity with SSP, SCTM, RAR, ASA, SOPs, POAMs and related artifacts as required to satisfy security controls across all families.This position can be filled at a level 2 or level 3.Basic Qualifications:BS degree in STEM with 2 years of Cybersecurity experience, preferably for USG customers; or 0 years with a Masters'. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.Must have U.S. Citizenship with active or current Top Secret Security Clearance, with eligibility to obtain SCI.Security Plus (+) Certification.Exposure and/or Experience to both NIST 800-37 and NIST 800-53.BS degree in STEM with 5 years of Cybersecurity experience, preferably for USG customers; or 3 years with a Masters'; or a PhD. $95,900 - $143,900Salary Range 2:
